A Superior Product January 13, 2009
This soldering station is state-of-the-art. Temperature is maintained within a few degrees at all times, allowing faster soldering. Hakko sells a wide variety of soldering tips for $6 (or less) each. The ceramic heating element and temperature sensor system are used on some very high-end production grade soldering stations.

I am an electronics technician and Amateur Radio operator. I use my 936 at home.

Hakko is a Japanese company. My unit was made in Singapore.

OK, that may be exaggerating a little, but not much. I bought mine because of the price. All I knew was that I wanted a decent soldering station for under $100. I didn't have much to go on when I bought this except that it offered what I needed for the best price. Boy was I shocked when I used it, this thing is amazing. I wouldn't have expected an iron to work this well for at least triple the price. It heats up almost instantly and stays hot. Do yourself a favor though and make sure you buy some tip tinner/cleaner. I found out that this is just as important as having a good soldering iron. If your tip is dirty, you won't get good heat transfer. I bought a little tin of it from radio shack and it came with double stick tape on the back so it's stuck right to the top of the control box so I will never forget to use it. I use it before, during and after every soldering project I do and trust me, it makes a world of difference. Anyway, if you have any doubts about this unit, squash them now because you won't be disappointed.

Disclaimer: My opinions are based on my experience. Before this unit, the only irons I've used were everything from the cheap $2 units to the $50 guns. None of them are even in the same league as this one in my opinion.

Yes, it is awesome! January 17, 2010

If you are used to the lousy $15-$30 soldering irons & guns (Weller, Radioshack, etc.) this is a game changer. It will take the quality of your soldering to the next level. No long waits for the gun to heat up--15 seconds and she's ready to go! It is easily adjusted from relatively cool to very hot--perfect for sensitive circuit board work or soldering 12 gauge wire, depending on the tip and temperature selected. Extremely high quality. Stop reading--order it!
