Book Description

When Sebastian of Hawkesmere returned from the Crusades he became a recluse, locking himself away in an enchanted tower, dabbling in alchemy and magic. When his brother captures a beautiful woman with a satchel full of amazing instruments, Sebastian is enlisted to help discern their purpose and discover where she came from. Rhoswen of Halcyon is unlike anyone Sebastian has ever known, and the answers he seeks will shatter his beliefs and force him to choose between love and duty.

About the Author

All her life, Diana Bold wanted to be a writer. Even as a child, her sister claims all she ever did was sit in her closet and scribble in a notebook. Now, she concedes the scribbling part, but not the closet part. Why would she need to sit in her closet when she had a perfectly good desk? In any event, she won her first writing contest when she was seven, and she was hooked! She married young, and soon had three wonderful little boys running around the house, so writing took a backseat for several years as she worked a variety of jobs that she hated. Once she started seriously pursuing a writing career, she found it was not as easy as she had expected, and she was not the prodigy she had imagined. But she joined a writer's group, and made a ton of writing friends along the way who showed her the error of her ways and unselfishly helped her get a little better. By the time she sold her first book in 2006, she'd already been at this for over ten years and was about ready to give up. Rejection is hard! But holding that first book in her hands made it all worth it. Now her sons are all grown up, and two of them have babies of their own, so she is a grandma. But she now has all the time in the world to devote to telling the stories that just won't let her sleep. She hopes you enjoy them! 5.0 out of 5 stars Storyline hooks you in March 5, 2013
Format:Paperback
Fantasy/historical is not usually my first-choice genre but a copy of Halcyon Rising was passed on to me from a friend. First up, I admire the author’s rich imagination that presents us with a civilization that has been forced to live in an underground cavern “deep in the bowels of the earth”. And so begins the wait to return to the surface of the world and the rest of humanity.

The storyline hooks you in and I was intrigued to find out how the plot would develop. I wasn’t disappointed. There is lots going on as well as good attention to character detail. Overall, the book is a good dose of pure escapism. Recommended read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Halcyon Rising April 14, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Rhoswen and Trevelan have been sent to the surface from their underwater city to assess the old caves in case they are needed in future as a refuge, but before they can complete their mission Rhoswen is captured by surface dwellers and thrown in the castle dungeon of Hawkesmere . . . luckily her strange gadgets intrigue the Lord of the castle's recluse brother, Sebastian, his time in captivity during the crusades making him a much more gentle captor and interrogator. I loved this story! The combination of the myth of Altantis with the myth of Selkies and Fey was awesome, everything combined in just the right way so that it seemed completely logical, given the medieval time period. The differences in culture, the threat of Sebastian's brother Simon, Sebastian's dark past, and the time spent in the isolated refuge of Sebastian's tower combined for a very potent love story that was riveting to say the least. Great Read!

5.0 out of 5 stars New take on Atlantis--And a Steamy Love Story April 7, 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This was an entirely new take on the story of Atlantis. The author brought to life a whole new history and way of life for the mysterious "fey" people of Halcyon. Right away the story grips you and makes the reader crave more. But this is not just a fresh take on an old tale-

On a trip to the surface Rhoswen of Halcyon becomes separated from her partner and encounters "surface barbarians" who live up to their name by capturing her and imprisoning her. Sir Sebastian has returned from the crusades a changed man--scarred in mind and soul--he wants nothing more than to be left alone with his experiments. H6wever, when he sees what has happened to the ethereal beauty his brother has captured, he is shaken out of his self imposed exile to help her. Now he must fight his demons from the past if he wants to live life again and win her heart.

I truly enjoyed the journey this story took me on and I was sad to say goodbye to the characters. The measure of a good book indeed.
