5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of his Career
This is the Thorogood album I've been waiting for. I've been the world's biggest Thorogood fan for twelve years now, and this one just blew me away.

Producer Terry Manning is back in the fold, and he gives this album a gritty, raw feel, with the slide guitar right up in your face. The best tracks are "Just Passin' Thru" and "Hellbound Train",...

3.0 out of 5 stars Lonesome George can still rock.
I am, I'm afraid, forever biased since my first George Thorogood album was his Greatest Hits, which nothing can top. This album is nowhere near that level, but George Thorogood can still rock and roll. His sound is more mature, and although his voice will never be confused with Robert Plant's, he can still slide on that Gibson of his. The revved-up tracks (99 days in...

Producer Terry Manning is back in the fold, and he gives this album a gritty, raw feel, with the slide guitar right up in your face. The best tracks are "Just Passin' Thru" and "Hellbound Train", but there isn't a dud here. There's slow blues, boogie, pop, and even country.

This is by far the best work George has ever done.

4.0 out of 5 stars No nonsense rock, March 9, 2002
This review is from: Half a Boy Half a Man (Audio CD)
HALF A BOY HALF A MAN by GEORGE THOROGOOD AND THE DESTROYERS is a no nonsense slab of rock and roll the way it should be. There are no gimmicks or flashiness, GT lets his guitar do all the talking for him. This album totally rocks and will be enjoyed by all music fans. I think out of the 11 songs on the album, the only one that doesnt cut the mustard to me is AS LONG AS I HAVE YOU. It is a good song, I just think the the vocal quality isnt up to par. If you need to know which songs are the best, I DONT TRUST NOBODY, 99 DAYS IN JAIL, JUST PASSIN THRU, DOUBLE SHOT and the title track are enough reasons why to purchase this album. I highly recommend this song for the serious music fan.

The revved-up tracks (99 days in Jail, Bebop Grandma, Just Passin' Through) once again take hold of that "boys night out" feel that the Destroyers had of old. "Hellbound Train" is the best track, a rather surprising macabre side of both Chuck Berry and Thorogood, dipping into America's rich ballad tradition.

For those that call George and his Destroyers "just another bar room band," I say this: remember rockers, Lonesome George (along with Guns n' Roses, Van Halen, and a couple of other notables) carried us through the 80's. Even as the great ones age and/or pass on, let's keep the tradition alive in our own music.

5.0 out of 5 stars PROVING HE IS A BLUES/ROCK LEGEND AGAIN, June 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Half a Boy Half a Man (Audio CD)
GEORGE THOROGOOD HAS BEEN IN THE BUSINESS 25 YEARS AND CONTINUES TO SHOW THAT HE CAN KEEP UP WITH THE TIMES. WITH HIS USUAL GRITTY SOUND AND AMAZING GUITAR GEORGE INCORPORATES BLUES,ROCK,AND EVEN COUNTRY INTO AN ALBUM WHICH SHOWS HIS MATURITY AND COMING OF AGE FROM HIS EARLIER DAYS. HIS SHOW AT MYRTLE BEACH SC WAS HIS DEBUT FOR HALF A BOY AND HALF A MAN AND I CAN SAY THAT HIS ATTITUDE AND FLARE MADE THE SHOW AND THE MUSIC ALL THE MORE EXCITING. THANKS GEORGE...

3.0 out of 5 stars not as good as I expected it to be, sorry George!, May 10, 1999

I expected something along the lines of "NADINE", and it does not measure up. The best cut's are "I DON'T TRUST NOBODY" and "JUST PASSIN THRU" I expected more and was disappointed......
