Counter-Strike Official Strategy Guide gives tips on what guns to use and how to use them. It also gives special strategies for each map, even if a player is playing on a public server.
This book's greatest strength addresses guns. The authors do a wonderful job of explaining how to use them, eg: with the MP5, aim for the shoulders, the enemy's head will move downward to give an easy headshot. It does have three errors I found:
A. It says the G3 is available to only the CT's (p42). The G3 is actually only available to the T's.
B. The book states that it takes a couple headshots, depending on what gun you use, to disable an opponent. This is wrong, one shot for any gun, excluding the glock, in a specific place will disable an opponent.
C. The last issue I would like to address is the TMP. The book idicates that the gun is bad and doesn't aim well or deal enough damage. I used it and got a 32 to 8 ratio. (pretty good for me)
The book overall helped me a lot. Before, I used to randomly pick a gun. Now, since I've read the book, I buy guns depending on my money and the way they handle, not their pictures

If you are relatively new to Counter-Strike this book is okay for becoming familiar with the weapons and maps. It has nice overhead views of maps and basic commentary on the weapons. However, I was a bit disappointed with the lack of content on general game tactics. I would say most of the book (about 65%) is clan match tactics, which most of us wouldn't use anyways, simply because they're not all that great. They show a few good camping spots (for you campers out there), but nothing you wouldn't have already figured out if you've been playing for a while.

The weapon information is OK at best. It gives very basic information concerning the accuracy and where to aim for some weapons. Unfortunately, some of the information is either outdated (written for CS 1.3) or wrong (just small errors like cost or availability) but if you're new to CS, this information can be very helpful.

If you're looking for a book to show you how to rack up frags online, this could help you out if you're a "noob". But if you're an semi-experienced player, save your money because you'll probably be disappointed. I would say this is more of an instruction manual than a book that will make you good at CS. If you wannna get good at CS, you simply have to play the game and pay attention to what works and what doesn't. Be willing to change your style, and observe other players (in first-person mode) who are genuinely skilled (not hacking). Also, become proficient with most or all of the weapons. I recommend practicing on "fy_iceworld" to accomplish this. Learn to be good player "all around." In other words, be a good sniper, rusher, and yes... even a good camper (but please don't camp all the time). That, in combination with efficient use of your surroundings, will help you rack up some frags.

If you're new to Counterstrike, then this book is a pretty good bet. Lots of information to *introduce* you to concepts like podbots, scripting, control settings, etc. Some of the information is for advanced play in leagues or whatever, but if you're looking to just increase your frag count at the early stages, this will help.

Yeah, some information is outdated, but the general concepts are all there, and then you can get more info from web sites, faqs, etc. Concepts listed in the book like shooting through boxes, etc aren't always obvious on the web. Yeah, you can get the same info online, but this is a nice reference with the maps and all. If you've got a couple bucks to blow, go for it.

On the other hand, nothing beats experience so get out and PLAY!

Simply said, good for n00bs, no good for advanced players.
I have played CS for about 4 months now, and I only learned about 2 new things. Other then that, the only things that I found helpful were the match strategies, so my team can devise ways around them, which are mainly just overpowering one route. The only people who really need this book are people who have played CS for about a week.

BTW- I'm not a minor - I'm just too lazy to register ;)

It is an amazing book to buy. It told me eleet things like burst fire, and duck jump, but as a whole, I know some history about CS. A "bust" buy Christmas Gift!

Instead of downloading OGC off rizzuh's cheat site, try using this book for all your CS related needs. This book will give you step by step instructions on blowing up the toliet in cs_militia. You will also learn how to turn lights off, and on again in the garage. Though nothing is more helpful than camping.

Example: Your CT on cs_siege. The book recommends that you camp by the base. The time will eventually run out, but you won't die. It's great!

Even though you find all the information in this pamplet on the internet, you still should buy it because there are many 1337 pictures of CT's camping.

The problem about this book is it doesn't go through the steps to teach you how to use the buy command. You must set up the alias in your console. It isn't hard, it's just time consuming.

I'd just like to point one thing out! OGC is a cheat! Anyone who uses OGC are Cheaters! This book has made me a Kill:Death 8:1 ratio player, from 3:1. Only morons wouldnt be able to gain from it!

The guy that wrote the review up there is a cheat through and through, so therefore would much rather turn his n00b hack on then try and learn something from great players.

I strongly suggest this book as i found it very helpful!

OGC is a cheat and i don't like it when the offical guide says its not.

All the tips are kind of newbie oriented and have no poin for the advanced beginer.

My personal opinion is 2 thumbs down.

The above review of OGC is BS. Sure, using OGC hacks are easy, and free, but why use them? And why buy this book? The only sure way of getting strats is to play. I have been playing CS for 3 years now, and I don't need a book to tell me how to play. When you are dead, watch the person in first place, and see what he does, then try to repeat what he did. Learn your own tactics. Just because x3 is the best clan in the U.S., does not mean their strats will help. Hope this has helped convinced you NOT to buy it.

This book is only good if you've been playing for a day or so.It is not helpful at all to me.. but thats just me.

This book is for complete morons!

I read this book and cried throughout.

If you be good burn this book and check out the internet for guides.
