Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Half Empty showcases six very short stories from the dimmer side of life. This collection of disturbing shorts challenges those who see the glass of life as half full. Half Empty exists in a world just slightly off kilter where the lives of innocent people unfold and bounce between frustrating absurdities to fates that seem cruelly predetermined.

Charles Gillis lives in Texas, where he annoys his family with incessant mutterings about moving to the Nova Scotian coast. As a writer he has made tens of dollars through the application of his craft and pledges that the proceeds of this work will benefit his Maritime retirement dreams, or at the very least, pay for a few rounds at the pub.

Even though this is a quick read -- it leaves you thinking. This is a collection of character studies from someone who has put a lot of thought into his writing. I happen to know that he has at least one book in the wings waiting for publication. Can't wait to read it when it comes out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and Thought Provoking, January 20, 2012
This review is from: Half Empty (Kindle Edition)
This little book is a mixture of things for a reader. At times, it is dark - even a little macabre at times - and still very thought-provoking and touching, even poignant at times. Either way, it should not be missed. This writer shows such writing skills it makes me want to read more from him. This is a quick read and brings such a sense of enjoyment to the reader. I cannot wait for his next project.

More About the Author

Thanks for visiting my author page. My writing has been called dark, twisted, macabre, terrifying, disturbing and fun. At times people think I have a jaded view of life. As a proponent of the philosophical school of absurdism, it is hard for me to identify any clear point to life and that shows in my writing. Oh, I think there is a point, don't get me wrong, it's just often hard to identify the actual point and I think that is what makes life worth living.

It's really interesting to examine just how often our assumptions are wrong. So often our efforts to change things do in in fact change things, just not the original things we wanted to change. By the way, if you ever want to screw yourself up study philosophy and history at the same time. You will find plenty of examples that demonstrate how screwy the world can be. My writing simply tries to capture a small corner of it all.
