Book Description

January 1, 2009
In her debut novel, the aptly-named Stephanie Emily Dickinson (who also reminds me of a female Tennessee Williams) gives us Angelique, a sort of hitch-hiking Lolita, and somehow makes her heart break in the reader'ss chest. Half Girl is 100% thrilling, harrowing, beautiful, and unforgettable. Jennifer Belle, author of Going Down and High Maintenance

Being from Iowa it was great reading Steph describe her experiences and remember another time. What a talented and gifted writer she is. Much of her writing is based on true experience and it makes me appreciate what she has gone through and survived to tell the story. I am anxious to read more of her stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best writer in America!, September 17, 2008
By
This review is from: Half Girl (Paperback)
Stephanie Dickinson has had a long, celebrated career as a poet & short story writer, so it is a joy to finally see her debut novel out in the world. She has won numerous awards & appeared in countless anthologies & literary journals but remains criminally unrecognized as one of this country's greatest writers. HALF GIRL would remedy that, if only the shuttered literary world of critics would read it. Simultaneously tragic & hilarious, dark & bright, poetic & crystal clear, this novel has it all.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for anyone seeking moving fiction., September 6, 2008
This review is from: Half Girl (Paperback)
Leaving home is never something that goes easy. "Half Girl" follows Angelique as she is left sprung from her childhood home. Her journey is one that leaves her hitchhiking far distances, and must deal with the many twists and turns that come with living this life style as a girl in her late teens. Taking readers on an emotional roller coaster with her, "Half Girl" is a must for anyone seeking moving fiction.
