Thanks to WFUV in NY, I went to their concert at the Rubin Museum and discovered a duo with a beautiful sound. Their folk music is fused with all sorts of cultural traditions and an all-inclusive brand of spirituality. For me, Maura's voice and Pete's guitar are as good as any I can recall, and their energy is infectious.

This morning I was in a really bleak mood--out of work, prospects looking dim, midwinter blues--so I put on this CD, and within three minutes I was ready to embrace the world. The Kennedys always have that effect on me, and Half a Million Miles does it again. It's so refreshing to hear optimistic music played with enthusiasm and sincerity. These days so much of music is about being ironic or precious, neither of which floats my boat. The recording quality on this CD isn't quite up to some of their others, sounding a bit muffled, and I do miss having some snappy drums to go with the jangling guitars, but the sparkling songs and the Kennedys' buoyant spirit makes up for any lack. Highly recommended.

I have heard the Kennedys on a number of occasions. Their guitar playing superb, their songs/lyrics the best. This album is both uplifting and charming. Buy the album, oh yeah, see them in person, in and around Northhampton, MA.....ABSOLUTELY

Not my favorite Kennedys album, but it's a good one. It's immediate and has the usual tuneful Kennedys comfortableness--like home and a cup of tea. Great vocals, great harmonies and the guitars are perfect. The general drift of the lyrics and stories are light weight (though heavy) philosophies from the used-book store. Like maybe they fell asleep in a big pile of Deep books and woke up with a new stack of songs. Don't get me wrong--I admire them for the path they've taken. Sensible and beautiful songs may one day win over the multi-trillion dollar material advertising world we swim in. Just until then we may have trouble breathing. The record sounds nice, the package is attractive and the booklet pretty much charts out the proceedings. Thompson and Dylan songs are passe in my world and, though well performed, I wish they had stuck with their own stuff. It may appear at a glance that I take this too seriously, but I'm frequently amazed at what works. And this works. Thank you, Kennedys.

Totally enjoyable vibrant music. Saw them in a small venue tonight (25 people) and am hooked. Talented and personable. Join in.
