Biography

Is it possible to be a successful purveyor of country music and Americana and still be a long-haired, pot smoking, environmentalist, liberal hippie? Willie Nelson is and always has been. His perpetually unshaven beard, long hair - frequently braided Indian style - American flag head scarf or cowboy hat and red, white and blue guitar straps are as visually recognisable as his deep, raw, warbley… Read more in Amazon's Willie Nelson Store

Editorial Reviews

Since the 1970s when he was an integral proprietor of the "outlaw" country movement, Willie Nelson has remained a key figure in the evolution of country music. His talented songwriting capabilities and unmistakable voice have helped Willie accumulate not only country fans, but mainstream pop fans as well. Hits like "Always on My Mind" and "On the Road Again" will remain timeless classics and show how influential Nelson has been on country, folk, and even rock n' roll music.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Selection Of Duets....Willie plus one ., June 10, 2000
This review is from: Half Nelson (Audio CD)
I note with interest news of a forthcoming album release from Willie Nelson entitled " Duets " no details of included tracks are as yet available .

This particular album could have been titled " Duets " as some of his most famous and sucessful duets are included , from the superb opening track "Pancho and Lefty " the exceptional Townes Van Zandt composition , accompanied by Merle Haggard ( there is also an album with this as the title track ) .

There are some tremendous performances ; the sublime " Seven Spanish Angels " with the incomparable Ray Charles ; the romantic " To All The Girls I've Loved Before " with Spanish heart-throb Julio Inglesias , or the foot tapping " They All Went To Mexico " with Carlos Santana . These , to me , are certainly the most well known , popular and sucessful although his duet with Frank Sinatra ( A Foggy Day ) would not be out of place here .

" Honky Tonk Woman " is taken from his " One From The Road " album with Leon Russell and like this song the album is distinctive , quirky but thoroughly enjoyable never the less .

The weakest tracks for me are his duets with " Hank Williams " and " Mel Tillis " and I found this version of " Half A Man " with George Jones a bit bland .

However while " Slow Movin Outlaw " with Luct J. Dalton was an absolute treat the highlight of the entire album for me has to be the top notch Neil Young composition " Are There Any More Real Cowboys " he also duets with Nelson on this and the result is simply sensational , it is a great pity this pair did not record more often together .

A well put together and varied album which I am sure contains tracks from which most people will be able to select a few favourites .

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly, a really good compilation album, June 21, 2010

I'm normally an album purist who doesn't buy a lot of compilations, but this one makes sense to get. I don't know anywhere else to get the Neil Young duet "Are There Any More Real Cowboys?", which is fantastic. The other incredible songs on this compilation are "Seven Spanish Angels" (available on various Ray Charles collections) and "Pancho and Lefty" (also on the album of the same name, but this is a better buy). Every song is at least decent, though the Hank Williams "duet" is totally unnecessary just like his all the Hank Williams fake duets with his songs and grandsons.

I received my cd quickly and in excellent shape. The cd is exactly what I ordered and I enjoy ordering from Amazon. I live in Belize, Central America and I wish I could order other things beside music. Maybe one day Amazon will ship other items out of the U. S. and I can order more things. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to express my feelings.
