5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Album, February 5, 2009
This review is from: Half Way Home (Audio CD)
If you like Porcupine Tree, It Bites, Marillion or Kino then you really should own this album. Fantastic songwriting and great musicianship - you won't be able to get the hooks out of your head for weeks.

AWESOME DEBUT!! This is a FANTASTIC album. If you are a fan of Prog Rock you have to at least check out their music. You can go to the bands web site [...] and listen to the songs for yourself. Also there are links to purchase CD direct from the band.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just let yourself go and enjoy it!, December 30, 2011
This review is from: Half Way Home (Audio CD)
I was introduced to DeeExpus (meaning?) on of all things, a Facebook sidebar. With strong ties to PT, I was curious-but cautious. I love Steven Wilson's work ALOT, but am not into "clone-bands. That being said, I poured a short-snort and sat down to listen. I was treated to something very special. Andy Ditchfield, the creative mind behind this effort is a very talented fellow like Steven himself, and originally recorded everything himself like Wilson, ala PT. If pressed to compare this band to another, I would have to whole-heartedly agree with reviewer (Paul White) previously and cite Kino. The pop elements are all to evident, but I welcome them. As an older progger (I just got my AARP card), I tend to eschew pop elements, but there is a place for that sound, and that's why I say-just relax and enjoy it. The vocals are nice and tight, everyone adds to the vocal blend, and now with double keys and double guitars, it twice as good! There are enough prog elements to satisfy my palette, and some nice little surprises mixed in w/ samples, sounds and tight drumming to make me a fan. I'd have to cite One Eight as my favorite initial song. As a drummer, it's just fun to drop in tasty fills over the gorgeous vocals, and let the sound wash over you. Like the songs on Picture, Kino's first effort, I found myself almost giddy from the structure, and dare I say the "poppiness" of the song. PTtee is an obvious homage to S. Wilson and co and as such satisfies my prog-tooth. Half-way home is a tour-de-force of everything in the toolbox, and the longest piece. I really like Pointless Child (very Marillionesque to my ears), I really like the strings and the tasty drum double bass fills which sound effortless...All in all a great album and I look forward to the DVD and future efforts!
