Ambient, electronic, dreamy, chillout - different and artistic.
I wasn't sure I was going to like this, but it grew on me quickly.
Relaxing but gets my imagination going.

This is a strange album, with an unusual sound, and yet very balanced and listenable. I have found no bad songs, no filler. It's at once ethereal, industrial, dark and danceable. Definitely not a flash in the pan, as Claire Boucher's other albums are also very good.
I came to know Grimes through a mention from Austra, another outstanding Canadian group. Both groups share a certain classical veneer to electro pop, but come from different angles.
Watch some of the videos too. These guys have a sense of humor!

Halfaxa is a really good album, but not as great as Geidi Primes or Visions. You can hear the style evolving here, so it isn't as raw or experimental as GP, but it lacks a bit of the polish and perfection of Visions. All the same, Halfaxa is definitely worth purchasing and giving a regular listen to.

Brilliant debut. Take Aphex Twin, 4AD's back catalog, and near-fatal dosages of LSD and mix them in a blender. Apply an ear for pop ditties and you've got something not just out of left field, but out of Planet Earth altogether. And her next three albums are equally genius. Claire Boucher has a long, weird, career ahead of her...

It does sound like a 1 woman show. Nonetheless, I like it. It has a variety of ethnic rhythmic tones to it and if you are in the mood for something a little different this music is worthy of adding into your versatile music collection. Can't stop playing 'My Sister Says the Saddest Things'. Kind of music I could play at parties and people would ask 'Who is this?'.

She's young but she's brilliant. I'm so lucky to not have died before getting a chance at hearing her works.

Ms. Boucher is an incredible artist/musician that shatters the boundary of Electronica as a male dominated genre. With 'Halfaxa' I found the nucleus of what would later become her masterpiece, Visions. Candidly, I found her vocal styling to be a bit cloying, but, it was on persistent and repeat listens to her music that I came to love her artistic statement and versatility as a musician. This is the type of music that is best enjoyed by those thrilled by the beauty of electronic sound, the studio as an instrument and experimental song writing. I truly am excited about what lies ahead from Grimes. It's the majesty of artistic endeavor that compels me to keep a close ear to this work and its successors.
