The Halflings are back! What could be cooler than a free short story while we wait for the release of Guardian? This one features that candy-loving hottie, Vine. In A Halflings Rescue, the Halflings are off to rescue a teenage movie star. The story's fun and snappy with great illustrations--we get to see the whole gang together. The first two chapters of Guardian are included as well. I'm hooked.

I love this series by Heather Burch. They are written well for the young adult genre. Halflings are half angels and half human, not necessarily an original concept but not lame either. Honestly when my husband saw I was reading it he thought it was possibly part of the D&D interest.

This book is the third, technically. There was an introduction 11:15 The Making of a Halfling ([...] this introduced us to the series and the characters. The first full length book Halflings ([...] and then to this short. This short really has very little to do with the story as a whole, it is more as a filler to keep or generate more interest in the series. That said, I believe it has done a good job at that.

A Halflings Rescue is where the team comes together and basically works as a crime fighting group and rescue a teen celebrity. There is drama. There is intrigue. There are 'hotties'. The writing is strong. The characters have personalities and they don't get in the way of the story. The only concern might be is if you have not read the two prior books there is reference to existing issues that might confuse the reader. This will not distract you from enjoying the entire story though.

One of the biggest criticisms I have read about this series is that the 'angels' are to pretty and it has tones of 'Twilight'. The issue with that is that these books are based on biblical accounts of angels and in that instant, they are beautiful. I look at it as they are attractive but not to the point that EVERYBODY is swooning over them. Other than that, this series is YA, that is teen. The series is written for entertainment.

Read this one and the other two, then get Guardian ([...]

I dont normally do novellas as I dont really think they bring much to the story. That is until I really started reading them! Now Im addicted. This one is a little side story in the halflings world and is a deff not to miss!

I am no stranger to teenage literature. They are a great read when one has some time to kill.

Which is why this short story prequel was downloaded. I didn't hate it, but it could have been so much more.

The reader is just thrown into this chaos with the hope that they are marginally aware of the world the author has already established.

Having this story be my first exposure, I felt like I should have known so much more than I actually did. I couldn't keep the characters straight because they were never really described. And I will NOT look at the pictures to straighten out something the author should have done in the first place.

Looking through my nexus, I see that I have ANOTHER short story of this series already on there, and I hope the next one is more established. The author does well describing the action, and I hope she puts more detail in her characters.

Just when I thought the wait for Guardian was going to be unbearable, A Halflings Rescue steps in and saves the day. A Halflings Rescue takes place in between Halflings and Guardian in the Halflings series. Even though the book was a quick read, it still had time to make me chuckle. Vine and his sarcastic sense of humor never fails to make me laugh. In the book, the halflings attempt to rescue a celebrity and her friends that are held hostage inside her house. The illustrations are really well drawn. They look almost like a manga-ka drew them. My only complaint about the story is I wish it was a little longer. The preview for Guardian at the end of the novella definitely made up for how short the story was.

Another short novella in the Halfling series. The last half of the book is a lengthy excerpt of the book Guardian: They chose to protect her. But forgot to guard their hearts. (A Halflings Novel).
YA storyline mixed with graphics, almost manga like images. I can really see how this will appeal to older teens.
There does seem to be an extraordinary amount of hot good looking teens and that phrase is used a few times, so maybe a different description for handsome winged Halflings might be worth considering.
The novella is a light read, what I would call good wholesome fun.

Storyline - The Halfling group go on a mission to rescue a movie star and her friends who have been taken hostage by gunmen. Under constant threat of being discovered, the Halflings work to subdue the captors but they might also get caught.

Personal Opinion - A fun adventure that takes place between books 1 and 2 in the Halfling series. I liked how most was from Vine's point of view. It was its own separate adventure from the rest of the series so those who don't have ereaders don't have to feel like they are missing anything if they can't read it. It was a bit slow but was a great story about sacrifice.
