A high Energy Band Who Has Potential,
By e.e. cummings. (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Halfway Between Here & There (Audio CD)
If you're into Less Than Jake, Pietasters, Sublime, Suicide Machines and Buck o Nine, then you have another strong and powerful pop record on your hands. This record has some great production and I'm quite sure that any pop-punk fan of (especially) Less Than Jake will not be disappointed. The band seems to have some high energy and just needs to be giving the right outlets to the pop-punk community to put their name on the map

Ok, so there are a lot of people who don't like ska anymore and are too close-minded to even give this CD a chance, but let me tell you, you're missing out! Rx Bandits combine elements of ska, punk and emo better than any band i've ever heard. This CD is incredible from beginning to end. The songs sound influenced by Sublime, The Get Up Kids and Less Than Jake. That may sound like an odd combination, but I promise you, it's one of the coolest sounds ever. Who ever thought a "ska" band would have such cool breakdowns in their songs? The lyrics are personal and political, the melodies are instantly memorable, the horn lines super-catchy and rocking, and the three part harmonies will make you flip out. One of the coolest things about this band is that they pull it off live and rock 10 times harder than on this record. This band will revolutionize the ska scene!

an orgasmic blend of ska and punk...yes you read that last part correctly. I cant write enough about this disc. It hits you from all sides, turns you upside down, shakes you around until another quarter hits the floor and then the jukebox starts rolling again. A joy to listen to. A joy to experience. If you love ska...buy it. If you love punk...buy it. If you love great vocals...great songwriting...GREAT MUSIC...BUY IT. yeah...

ska+pop+punk= RX Bandits,
By "weapon_xxx" (U.S.) - See all my reviews

With the whole new pop/punk craze (Spearheaded by Blink 182 and their buddies), it's seriously hard to find a band that fits into the "we're pop punk but we still have edge and material" category. Well, low and behold, the RX Bandits pull off a ska frenzy of just that. Although most punk/ska bands usually shine when going at whiplash speed, the Bandits seem to take the spotlight best in softer, more melodic songs. Take "Gun in Your Hand", "Cornered", and "What If" with it's on again and off again beat for the best examples. Overall a good album with it's fair share of philosophy, youth angst, love, and humor in its 11 tracks. Nothing seriously groundbreaking, but enough substance to sigh at the "other" bands.

...I thought I knew ALL of the good ska/punk bands......,

Ska/punk is weird. One element comes from the slums of Jamaica, the other from the slums of Britain. One is all about taking it easy, the other about rebellion and angst. However, when you combine third-wave ska with pop-punk, the result can be amazing. The RxBandits have the formula down perfectly. After hearing this CD at a friend's house, I was amazed by the tightness of the band, the catchiness of the songs, the quality of the recording, and the overall musicality. This is not cheap, throw-away pop-punk that sounds the same as every other band out there. The RxBandits are extremely original and creative. The album is SO fun to listen to because all of the songs are just good! I hear Sublime influences, and then there's some Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake thrown into the mix. The result is a totally original and exciting sound. My only complaint about the CD is that it isn't long enough. If you have any doubts, just listen to "What If." And if you can, download the whole song. It's the song that got me hooked on them in the beginning. The forbodingly simple bass line is accented by Matt Embree's punchy vocals before the whole thing breaks into a torrent of guitars and horns....jeez it's so good! See for yourself....

RxB!,

This is by far the greatest album i have ever purchassed. It's ska and punk, and not just like punkska bands, there is a definative change between every song, it's amazing. RxB has very strong views, and if you talk to Matt (Embree [guitar and vocals]) he'll tell you that he just wants the ideas out there, he's not forcing you to believe them. This is a great album and everyone should have a copy!

A Mix Of Ska And Punk That Works,

Rx Bandits are another cool new band that people haven't been checking out because everyone hates ska now and it's all "old" and crap. But if you're still into it, you should give Rx Bandits a chance. They're fast, catchy, and cool. This is one of the best mixes of the two genres I've heard yet, mainly because everyone hates ska now...my point is, give this CD a chance. I got it used, after I listened to my brother's You'll Never Eat Fast Food Again CD, and I thought they were cool. I went to the store, got it, and thought it sucked for the first week. But if you listen more, you'll like it. Cool CD. The best songs are Wrong With Me and Cornered, but a lot more of them are rad too. It's good music to have when you're skating. Also check out the only other two bands who I think meld the two styles together well, Suicide Machines and Aquabats.

Pretty good, but not their best...,
By Daniel Gould (Oregon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Halfway Between Here & There (Audio CD)
This is a great album. It makes me want to jump up and down, thrashing my head around violently enough to give even my onlookers whiplash, but musically, this album is not their best.
In "Halfway..." RxB has a youthfulness to them, a lot of high energy, which is great. I particularly like "Now or Never" because of it's plucky ska tune. So if you love ska/punky alternative reggae, this album is for you. If you need something a little more loud and hardcore, look to their other 2 albums...

Ska Bliss!,

RX Bandits are easily one of the most talented bands in music today. The band is absolutely excellent. The way they blend all their insturments together is truly amazing. Featuring a top notch horn section, an amazing bass player, and some of the most original and catchy rythms you'll hear, this cd is some of the best ska you will be able to find anywhere. My favorite on the cd is "Now or Never", this song is outstanding and really shows what each section of the band can do. The basswork on it absolutetly blows my mind. Other standouts are the guitar driven opener, "What If", the incredibly catchy "Ten Seconds Never Seemed So Long" and the powerfully lyrical "Gun In Your Hand". There is not one bad track on the cd, it really shows they worked hard on it. This cd is well worth it. RX Bandits is easily one of the most talented, hard working bands out there today, and are well worth a check out from everyone. I can't wait to see them live with NFG

Ska Punk yes ska punk if you dont like ska punk then go away,
This review is from: Halfway Between Here & There (Audio CD)
This is nice Ska punk , tightly written think Sublime think mad caddies and less than jake. It's short and sweet never out stays it's welcome , It's a bit of fun in a world of nu-metal dirges , it's fun dancing music for our generation. I love the tone of the guitars it's very clean and not to much distortion then the trumpets (I think they are trumpets) The vocalist has the right amount of clash, specials, sublime and punkiness to make this album pure brilliance. Yes if you like nice light ska punk with some original lyrics.
