We received this flute within 7 - 10 days of ordering it. My daughter who is 10 loves it and we were very happy with the quality of the flute. One of the keys were not playing correctly after 7 months and I contacted them and they immediately responded back to me to send it to them. Once they received it, they fixed it immediately. Leo even called me to let me know it had been fixed and he was mailing it back to me. I would highly recommend this flute and any purchase from Hallelu Music. There is no doubt in my mind that I would recommend them to everyone I know.

Your school music instructor will invariably tell you to rent a "higher quality" instrument rather than buying a "cheap" instrument.

But IMHO that is terrible advice for a number of reasons:

1) First and foremost, this is a solidly built, quality instrument. It plays well and while it may not compare to a $700 Yamaha, it is much more than sufficient for the beginner to intermediate player. So don't believe the bias that "all reasonably priced instruments" are "cheap", because this one is NOT. (Again, not an expert, just my opinion).

2) The average rental of a $300 Yamaha beginner flute is approx $30/month. The average interest a beginner shows in playing the flute is about 9 months (one school year). After 3 to 4 months, this flute is PAID for and will still be of sufficient quality for another several years until the student is of a more intermediate skill level (perhaps even longer...who knows?).

3) If you rent a $300 flute and your kid sits on it, reenacts Starwars light saber fights, etc, then you just bought a $300 used rental (at full price)... and it probably is not reparable should those type of severe "accidents" occur. Kids are prone to use Flutes in all sorts of ways that are detrimental to the wallet of the person responsible for the rental. If your kid trashes this one, you're out about $120 and can still buy another NEW one and even then, you're STILL below the replacement cost of that rental.

4) Lets face it. The instrument quality is not the issue for a beginner. Unless your child is a prodigy, this instrument will not be the weak link in the child's playing:
The child's skill level will be.

UPDATE: Price at the time of purchase was $200.

Pros:
- This is a "real" instrument. The price made me skeptical of its quality, but I've had it 2 months and am thrilled with how it plays.
- Comes well-protected in a good quality carry-case.
- Also comes with cleaning cloth and rod, as well as a care booklet that includes a small fingering chart.
- The price still surprises me; I'm impressed how it compares to much more expensive options.

Cons:
- It's not a "magic" flute... so I'll just have to keep practicing.

I bought this flute as a replacement for the one I had growing up so that I could practice with my daughter who plays clarinet. So far, this has turned out to be a great deal and I am very satisfied! I definitely recommend for anyone just starting out with the flute or as a replacement! This is definitely a better deal than some of the local deals you might encounter when purchasing your child their beginner instrument. I wish I would have found this before I purchased my daughter's clarinet! Look no further, the price, the beautiful tone, the quality and the quick delivery of this product make it well worth the buy!

I played the flute many years ago and decided to take a beginner flute course. Part of the requirement was bringing your own flute so based on other reviews, I purchased the Hallelu flute. It came in excellent condition - case, cloth, everything was intact. Took my first class yesterday and it was a pleasure to play. I think it will last a long time and I believe it is worth more than the price I paid.

I wanted to get my daughter a new flute for her 11th B-day, replacing the rental she's had for a year which we've been paying $18/month. The music store quoted me $800 for a new flute and trashed "cheaper" flutes. And in fact our $100 flute did have problem. I called more than a month after receiving the flute and Leo was very accommodating and helpful, I sent back the flute, all he had to do was adjust the flute (ain't broken)and sent it right back within the week. My daughter's happy, I'm satisfied, will most certainly purchase from Amazon again, and especially from Hallelu Music. Thanks again Leo.

I am not primarily a flautist, as I play a dozen different instruments, and have never specialized in any one. This (usually!) necessitates a certain frugality when picking up a new instrument, as the money gets spread around amongst many. In looking for a replacement for my loyal but aging Yamaha student flute, I read as much as I could about the pros and cons of buying any of the sub-$200 flutes available here and elsewhere, and I noticed that the people who tended to be the most insistent that it was a horrible idea also had the most to gain, in that they also were somehow involved in the business of selling (expensive) flutes. How odd! Having dismissed the most negative of reviews and articles, I decided to make a judgment based on the collective reviews of individual instruments here. The Hallelu HFL-200 won. I'm very glad that it did. While I have never actually owned a "professional" level flute, (meaning having a cost of multiple thousands of dollars), I have had chances to play them over the years. For the most part, to me, they were indistinguishable from my Yamaha. So it was with great anticipation that I raised the Hallelu for the first time. The sound that came out of it startled me. My wife turned around and said something to the effect of "Are you kidding me?!". It is by far the easiest playing flute I have ever played. The tone is pure, clean, and loud, all the way up and down the register. It feels like it is playing itself. Reality check: Is the metal and the construction less than that found on a more expensive instrument? Of course. Is it perhaps non-repairable if grossly mishandled or abused? Probably. Is the quality control as high, ensuring consistency from instrument to instrument? Probably not... it may be that your mileage may vary. For me, this is an amazing instrument. So, if you have been debating whether to go this route or not, give it a shot, it sure works for me!
