This is the most evocative, lovely and spiritual song ever written. I've listened to it so many times I hear it in my sleep. Reportedly, Mr. Cohen wrote 80 verses to this, but only a dozen or so are ever performed. I wish the others were available for study; he combines biblical allusions with modern sensibility better than any poet that I know of.

As he himself once said in an interview, it's about saying hallelujah to life, even when everything is going wrong.

His deep velvet and whiskey voice is the only one that does it justice (although I'll agree there has been some marvelous covers, especially K.D. Laing's version).

or if you think "Hallelujah" is a song you usually hear at Christmas, sung by the local high school choir, give this one a try. Cohen will make you smile and break your heart at the same time. Beautiful, soaring, gravelly, and lovely.

Although I believe I might prefer the Jeff Buckley version of this song for melody and tenor who can fault the rich vibrancy of Leonard Cohen. The sound of his voice echoing through the speakers is ethereal. The better the sound system the more this song version turns into a classic.

No matter how many times I listen to this, I still feel a little chill and me feel as if I am living in Old Testament times.

Hallelujah is one of my all time Leonard Cohen songs. A must have song for your ITunes collection. Hallelujah Cohan! This cut is from his best singing age period in my opinion.

This song has been used in so many movies and shows, everyone is bound to recognize it even if they don't know who sings it. But it's a classic, for sure.

"Hallelujah" is an example of the healing poetic in music. It is a folk narrative, a story that calls for restoration. This integration of the spiritual and the secular is purging. And, indeed, an authentic representation of how the heart begs and receives a hearing of healing. As I listened to this song, I found myself in a cry of Amen. Who would have thought about the brokenness of a "hallelujah." Who would have thought that a secular song could call for God to show His face. Is it possible to be in a state of brokenness from love, life, etc, and healing at the same time? Mr. Cohen shows how that is possible. Yes he does--Amen! Thanks Mr. Cohen
