It's good to finally see this song released outside of the Shrek soundtrack. Rufus's effort at producing an emotional and soothing cover of Hallelujah can only be described as a success; a smooth piano line coupled with his unique baritone goes a long way towards being memorable. When I first listened to his version in 2005 (previously I had only heard in the in-film John Cale rendition), I was amazed, and it immediately became my favorite song, later inspiring me to learn piano just so I could play this. I also had the pleasure of hearing Mr Wainwright perform it in concert in August of 2007, and I could ask for no better.

Even if you're not a fan of Rufus Wainwright, give this a listen; you might become one like I did. At $0.99, you can't go wrong; in addition, the 320kbps mp3 audio quality Amazon offers can't be beat by iTunes' common 256kbps m4a.

Ever since his version of this song was included on the first "Shrek" soundtrack, I have absolutely loved this song. Very spiritual and inspirational. I've heard the original version of "Hallelujah" and many other versions since, but Rufus Wainwright's is my favorite.

I never heard all the words before in the movie Shrek. When I played it for my nephew over Memorial Day weekend,he knew it came from Shrek.

Rufus isn't Leonard Cohen, but he's okay. This version I heard on the radio & really liked the lyric, before discovering that it was a Leonard Cohen original after some minor digging. So you might want to see if you prefer the master to his student before buying this, as I'm sure Cohen doesn't pronounce everything correctly [the way us 'murricans are prone to do] & consequently the rhyme scheme actually works correctly, but whatever. When I sing along with this, *I* know how to slur things "correctly" so that it comes out right, and that's good enough for me! ;-)

I liked Rufus Wainwright's version of Hallelujah, so I bought the MP3 to keep on my Kindle. I think I like Leonard Cohen's version better though. I'll be buying that one too!
