If you're interested in theatre in the 1920s and '30s, this book is a must-read. It brings the era to life. Hallie Flanagan was a pivotal figure -- as a director and above all as an experimenter with theatrical forms -- and knew many of the most important people of her age. The book is readable, lively and accurate.
