4.0 out of 5 stars Should contain some of his other tracks
I think this CD is missing some of Carpenter's eerie synthesizer sounds from other movies like Christine, The Thing, They Live, and Halloween. Yes, they contain the main themes, but I believe some of his best collections are from the background music.

1.0 out of 5 stars There's nothing like the originals
It sounded like an awesome idea.Put the main themes from a bunch of John Carpenter movies on one CD.Where did things go horribly wrong? All of these songs are redone by some guy named Daniel Caine. Most of the songs sound either slightly off (the older, simpler tunes) or way off (the newer, more advanced tunes) from the originals. Why not just put on the original themes...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Idea....But Just Doesn't quite Cut It, October 13, 2004

I love Horror movies, and have been a big fan of Carpenter's films and music ever since seeing The Fog way back when. And usually every Halloween, there is some new compilation of Horror Movie Themes that hit the stores, and when I saw this one I snapped it right up thinking here were all of Carpenter's tunes on one disk. Well.....these are themes from some of Carpenter's movies, but they are not the originals. Some of them are good, like the "Halloween Theme", "The Thing" and "The Fog". Some of them are okay like "Assault on Precinct 13" and "Escape from New York". But really....how many versions of the "Assault on Precinct 13" theme can you really want? I mean there are 3 versions of the main theme on here!! And then there are the bad, "Starman" and the unlistenable "Christine" which was just embarassing to listen to. This isn't a bad CD for background music at your next Halloween party, but if you really like the music of Carpenter's movies, get the soundtracks.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not John Carpenter, February 14, 2009
This review is from: Halloween: The Best Of John Carpenter (Soundtrack Anthology) (Audio CD)
This is a great idea! Hopefully someone who controls the rights to John Carpenter's music will think of it someday but until then this is one of the few compilations available with John Carpenter's music played by SOMEBODY ELSE. That's right. These are not the original soundtracks. They are the same music but played by some nobody. To be fair it is not a bad CD because the music is great. Just don't expect it to sound like movies because it does not. As other reviewers have noted all the tracks sound just a bit off. I bought this CD about 10 years ago before it had the new more upscale cover and knew from reading the small print on the back they weren't the originals but the price was right. I've been waiting ever since for a proper greatest hits collection and I am still waiting although this has been THE year so far for John Carpenter soundtracks with the release of the limited edition 2-Cd complete soundtracks of "Halloween III", the long-out-of-print "Prince of Darkness", "They Live" and just last week "Big Trouble in Little China." Hopefully the holy grail "Assault on Precinct 13" will not be far behind.
