5.0 out of 5 stars Best Sounds of Halloween, September 13, 2001
By
Steven Isaacson (San Jose, California USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Halloween Horrors (Audio CD)
In 1977, I was about four years old when this album came on record. My parents bought it for Halloween, I was spooked out of the chair. The story is great, and dozens of sounds. When I went into the cabinet I found the original record. I was amazed it still exists. The more amazing thing is that it is now on CD. I love it when old records are put on CD format. This is good to listen to all year long. Let Halloween remind you to play this awesome CD (record). This is definitely a must have. Give Horrors a try, if you got guts. Ha-Ha-Ha.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahh to be a kid again..., January 22, 2006
This review is from: Halloween Horrors (Audio CD)
My brother and I would listen to this in our basement while growing up. Our Mom was into anything scary so her having this album in the collection wasnt a surprise. I was born in '74, and I remember hearing this for the first time around 1980 I suppose. I'd say the last time we listened to it was around 1990(16 years ago). We got rid of the record player but where the record went, we never knew. We recently sold the house and it really bothered me how we were leaving without that one single record. I didnt remember the exact name of it so I didnt know where to start. How was I pointed in the right direction? Its quite amazing really. I was watching M*A*S*H the other night and one of the chopper pilots voice caught my attention. I watched the ending credits to see his real name was Michael Bell. I hopped on Google and there it was, Halloween Horrors. I literally got goose bumps when I found it. I tried about 5 years ago but like I said, I didnt know where to start. I just had my brother listen to it and needless to say, he was shocked I found it, and that it was on CD no less! He and his Fiance are listening to it right now. Hopefully when they have kids, they will sit them down so they can experience it as we did. Get this CD/Album, its a classic and knows No generation gaps. Your children will love it, and if you grew up with it is as my brother and I did, you owe it to yourself to get this for old times sake :) -Aaron-

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Halloween Album - And a Little Nostalgia, September 10, 2009
By
Dang Lad (Encinitas, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Halloween Horrors (Audio CD)
This is a great Halloween album with the first side / track being a haunted house walk through and story and the second side being a wide range of high quality sound effects. As you can tell from a lot of these reviews, nostalgia plays a key part for most everyone who knows this album and I'm no different. I remember my brother and I putting this on and acting our the story in our living room and reacting to all the sounds effects and doing our own little movies. I was born in '84, so actually a little younger than most of the reviewers, but that just shows it's staying power. It's worth the money!

4.0 out of 5 stars The inspirational Halloween sound effect album of yesteryear, October 31, 2003
This review is from: Halloween Horrors (Audio CD)
"Halloween Horrors" is the classic Halloween sound effects record because it is much more than several dozen sounds effects. The first track is a fourteen-minute narrative, "The Story of Halloween Horror" that is a halfway decent story. But more importantly, it basically uses a lot of the 55 sound effects included on the rest of the album, although we are talking much more Creaking Doors, Rain, and Groans than Swords Clashing and the Giant Space Ship. The reason so many of us have fond memories of this album, which was originally released in 1977, was that the story got you thinking "Hey, I can do that," and then you could start playing around with your cassette tape record to do your own little dramas complete with sound effects. You could even have the Giant Space Ship descend on knights fighting with clashing swords, because once your imagination is unleashed where are you going to draw the line? There are plenty of sound effects collections with more sounds and better sounds, but I have not seen a similar effort that is as inspirational as "Halloween Horrors." This is not an atmospheric recording that you can play in the background while passing out the candy on Halloween. This is a basic set of sound effects that you can use to basically put together your own little radio plays. On second thought, that last comment probably dated me too much, because I am sure kids today are using sound effects for their computer generated films and more.

4.0 out of 5 stars My baby, have you seeeeen my baby?, October 30, 2003
This review is from: Halloween Horrors (Audio CD)
I had this album back in the late '70's when I was around 10 yrs. old. My little sister and I would turn out the lights and listen to the story and scare ourselves. To this day, we can still quote from the story -- of course it's funny now. I was reunited with the CD version around 1990 when I found out my new college roommate had it in her collection. Talk about friends for life!! I'm sure these days there are all kinds of scarier and more "advanced" Halloween soundtracks, but this will always be my favorite. It was neat to see that a few other reviewers have enjoyed it, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Scariest music ever!, February 2, 2003
This review is from: Halloween Horrors (Audio CD)
I remember when a store named turtles existed not to far from where I lived. My grandmother, dad, and I went shopping and I picked out a CD called peter rabbit or something to that effect. My grandmother suprised me with the cd Halloween Horrors and the first time I listened to it I was spooked. My dad even told me if I was that scared to go down to the basement after listening to it not to ever listen to it again. Fourtuneatly, I over came my fears and started to enjoy the cd more. My favorite track was the story of halloween. I am still glad they make it. I would recommend anyone hoo is a fan of halloween or just interested in the cd to pick up a copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic kid-friendly horror!, September 4, 2011
This review is from: Halloween Horrors (Audio CD)
I remember listening to this album on our record player when I was about 8 years old (I was born in 1973). This is a well-told story with great sound effects. My daughter of 5 years now LOVES this story as well. I put the album art on my iPhone, and she just loves being spooked by it as we listen to it at night. This is a wonderful story!

I had this CD somewhere and needed another copy to do sound effects for Halloween. It has some very good sound effects. For those of you that like a haunted story with sound effects it has that too.

The seller, Tunescdstv4, told me that the CD was used. It looked brand new to me and they got it to me before the expected time.
