4.0 out of 5 stars A THRILLING NOVEL FOR THE FANS

4.0 out of 5 stars A THRILLING NOVEL FOR THE FANS, February 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Halloween II (Paperback)
This novel, the adaptation of the horror film, was quite a fine read.

The story: The continuation of part one, right from the second that it ended. The shape, Michael Myers, murdered several teenagers after escaping from a mental assylum the night before. He now follows the sole survivor to the hospital where she is brought. His psychiatrist, Sam Loomis, is hot on his trail.

The characters were extreamely believable and easy to relate to. The drugged up Laurie running from the killer. The psychiatrist slowly going mad in his quest to stop a patient. An unenthusiatic skeleton crew at a nearly abandoned hospital. All were handled well.

The author's prose was excelent. He went into fine detail throughout the novel, giving it a more believable feel. Unfortunately, this detail does not apply to the last few chapters. They seem rather hurried, as if the author just wanted to finish.

The terror, the violence, the suspense...all will appeal to readers whether a fan of the film series or not.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT NOVEL! SCARY FOR ALL AGES!, February 2, 2002

This review is from: HALLOWEEN II (Paperback)
I purchased this book at a used book store and was really happy when I found it, considering that it was out of print and a rare collecter's item for Halloween fans. I read it in about a week. There are a few scenes from the book that are in the television version of the movie and there is one extra kill. The thing I liked about this book was that you got very in-depth with the mind of the characters. Jack Martin, the author, does a great job at writing the book. The book could not have been better. It is a great read that I would reccomend to anyone who likes a good old-fashion do not read when you are alone book. It has the same plot as the movie: Escaped serial killer Michael Myers has killed 3 teenagers on Halloween night and then shot six times, but survived. Dr. Loomis, Michael's doctor tracked Michael down before, can he do it again before Michael kills his sister, Laurie Strode. And that's it. Very simple, but awesome!

This novelization of the mediocre sequel to one of the most successful independent horror movies of all time is a mixed bag. It is filled with spooky, late night atmosphere and tries hard to build tension and suspense from the filmsy story delivered by screenwriters John Carpenter and Debra Hill. On some levels it does succeed where the movie failed in sustaining suspense and atmosphere, but the lack of a strong story to anchor the events renders the chills meaningless. Jack Martin is a pseudonym for Dennis Etchison, who wrote the excellent novelization of Carpenter's ghost story classic The Fog.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good buts it's nearly word for word of the movie., April 3, 2011

This review is from: HALLOWEEN II (Paperback)
It's obvious this book was written after the movie was made. The book is leterally word for word of the movie, but still fun to read. There are only a few chapters that are a little different of the movie which give you a little more insight to the story of Michael Myers. Fans will enjoy the book, not sure for people who haven't seen the movie. If you read this book and haven't seen the movie, I am not sure there is enough information to keep track on what is going on. The author expects you to have already seen the movie so it's easy to follow along for fans. Good purchase, but I am not sure I would purchase the other Halloween books to enjoy a good read. People who buy these books are usually just fans and want collectors items.

5.0 out of 5 stars Halloween 2 Thumbs Up, February 1, 2009
This review is from: HALLOWEEN II (Paperback)
HALLOWEEN II was great on screen and works fine on paper. Its creepy, its fun. Jack Martin delivers the scares, in ink, to a tee. Watch the movie, read the book, and beware The Shape!

2.0 out of 5 stars "Halloween II" novel doesn't do the movie justice, March 29, 2002
By
C.H. (Beach Park, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HALLOWEEN II (Paperback)
The novelization of "Halloween II" follows the storyline of the movie; Michael Myers walks away after being shot six times by his doctor and follows intended victim Laurie Strode to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital, where several bodies later cat and mouse meet again. The novel has some minor additions as well as "scenes" that were dropped from the final cut of the movie, as well as several pictures from the movie, but the book is a pretty tedious read. Get the Universal DVD if you're in the mood.

I purchased this as a gift, great fiction for those of you that like to be scarred. This book is hard to put down, I think it's more scarrier than the movie. You decide if there really is a boogyman!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars HalloweeN II, June 25, 2009

The Shape '75 (Standing behind you...) - See all my reviews
Great read. Spooky atmosphere throughout and some extra scenes not filmed in the '81 film. Other than a few scenes, it doesn't stray far from the film, but because of the medium of book vs. film, we get an inside look into the mind of one of cinema's greatest horror icons, Michael Myers. A nice spooky yarn for the Halloween season.

I can hear the eerie John Carpenter theme now. This book was actually cool. I've read all of the novels, including the three young adult titles, and consider this one to be one of the best. Try reading it after watching a news story on TV about gun control or gang violence in school and then you'll get the irony. This isn't as bloody as it should be, even though it was a novelization of the movie, but it still ranks as a terrific read. Other titles, if you can find them, to read: "Pretty Maids All In A Row," "Jason Lives: Friday the 13th part 6," "Blood High" and "Funhouse." By the way, Ana Alicia was the sexiest girl in the movie. Yowza!
