The last great Halloween score., October 12, 2001
This review is from: Halloween III: The Season Of The Witch - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
While Carpenter's score for Halloween is an acknowledged masterwork, it is this score that remains my favorite of the Halloween series. Perhaps it is that the first two scores were basically the same music, repeated endlessly. Certainly they are good themes, but variation, which is abundant on this score, is a good thing. H3's score was the first to use the Carpenter/Howarth 'watch while you score' method, which undoubtedly led to the formation of their 'sound of the mood' technique. With the exception of the excellent Chariots of Pumpkins used in the opening sequence and as the end title (with melodic line) there are no repeating themes. Chariots only appears once on the soundtrack however, in its end credit melodic line glory with but a tiny cattle prod from its opening sequence slipped in. Quite frankly I wish both versions had been included, just to hear the differences between the two. The rest of the score, with the exception of the Halloween Montage featuring the Silver Shamrock commercial jingle, is melodic mood of the darkest kind. While each track has a distinct personality, they nonetheless fit together smoothly. Highly recommended and an essential Carpenter disc.

A FEW WONDERFUL PIECES, August 24, 2000
This review is from: Halloween III: The Season Of The Witch - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
HALLOWEEN III's opening credits track is a masterful somewhat experimental piece, it is electronic music at its finest. Following that track is the great "Chariots of Pumpkins" and later the very creepy "Happy Halloween" theme that will bring you back into the evil core of this horror film.

Agreed. An underated Carpenter Soundtrack!, October 26, 1998
This review is from: Halloween III: The Season Of The Witch - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The soundtrack for Halloween III is great and never really, in my opinion, got proper recognition because of the unpopularity (?) of the film. And the only reason the flick was ill received by fans of H1 & H2 was because everyone was expecting Michael to pop out. The more I see the movie, the more it grows on me. The music is erie and, most importantly, does its job of complimenting the film. One of my favorite electronic soundtracks.
