The last great Halloween score.,
By
This review is from: Halloween III: The Season Of The Witch - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
While Carpenter's score for Halloween is an acknowledged masterwork, it is this score that remains my favorite of the Halloween series. Perhaps it is that the first two scores were basically the same music, repeated endlessly. Certainly they are good themes, but variation, which is abundant on this score, is a good thing.H3's score was the first to use the Carpenter/Howarth 'watch while you score' method, which undoubtedly led to the formation of their 'sound of the mood' technique. With the exception of the excellent Chariots of Pumpkins used in the opening sequence and as the end title (with melodic line) there are no repeating themes. Chariots only appears once on the soundtrack however, in its end credit melodic line glory with but a tiny cattle prod from its opening sequence slipped in. Quite frankly I wish both versions had been included, just to hear the differences between the two. The rest of the score, with the exception of the Halloween Montage featuring the Silver Shamrock commercial jingle, is melodic mood of the darkest kind. While each track has a distinct personality, they nonetheless fit together smoothly. Highly recommended and an essential Carpenter disc.

A FEW WONDERFUL PIECES,

HALLOWEEN III's opening credits track is a masterful somewhat experimental piece, it is electronic music at its finest. Following that track is the great "Chariots of Pumpkins" and later the very creepy "Happy Halloween" theme that will bring you back into the evil core of this horror film.

The soundtrack for Halloween III is great and never really, in my opinion, got proper recognition because of the unpopularity (?) of the film. And the only reason the flick was ill received by fans of H1 & H2 was because everyone was expecting Michael to pop out. The more I see the movie, the more it grows on me. The music is erie and, most importantly, does its job of complimenting the film. One of my favorite electronic soundtracks.

Halloween III: Season Of The Witch, the soundtrack and the movie are vary vary good. I hear a lot of people say, "if they didn't call it Halloween it would have done better. Well I have been a Halloween fan for going on 15 years & to tell you the truth I never liked Halloween 3. Because I never gave it a chance. When I did I still didn't like it but after I bought it I did start to like it and to be honest I love Halloween 3 a lot now. It gives you a little break from Michael and a chance at something new and the music I think is what makes it good. The score is vary rare to find I have every DvD every VHS and all but Halloween three's soundtrack. But I just won it on ebay for $86.00 dollars. And I was at no stop till I got it. I tell you what get this soundtrack. It is one of Carpenters & Howarth's best. You won't be disappointed. I promise. Get yours now because they go for $ Hundreds of dollars and Amazon has them for a cheaper price then what I paid. So get yours today

I bought this cd a while back and have listened to it a number of times. My favorite tracks are #1-Main Title and #9-The Rock.I love the music and I think it's some of John Carpenter's best work.

In my opinion the best Halloween soundtrack. It sounds like a reversed version of some of the H1's tunes.Very creepy and original. It was so original, that John Carpenter practically remade the album again and released it as the Christine soundtrack (aka they are very similar to each other).Every track is excellent, with great songs such as "Drive to Santa Mira",and the super catchy "Halloween Montage".Happy, happy halloween...halloween...halloween.

The Best Soundtrack of the "Halloween" series!,

The other Halloween's may be better with Michael Myers music, but the soundtrack of "Halloween III:Season of the Witch" is the best as far as music it has the best theme ("Chariots of Pumpkins")that scares the pants off of me everytime I hear it.The original "Halloween Theme" doesn't do that to me. But this does!!!

This is definetly the best Soundtrack of them all from the Halloween series, and it's a bit diffrent than the other Halloween soundtracks. A much bigger improvement on this one! The music on this CD is very creepy & haunting, and I can't compare this one against the other Halloween soundtracks since this one stands out on it's own.
You will feel yourself immersed into the movie when sittig down in a dark & quiet room, listening to this incredible work by John Carpenter. And what I really like with JC's soundtracks is that you can sit down & listen to them without even seeing the movie first. But If you have seen the movie then you will automaticly be transported to those scenes in the movie where the music took place, I promise you that! Is this his best Horror soundtrack then? If you ask me, Yes! No doubt about that, but Christine comes close after this one. I recommend this album to everybody who likes creepy & haunting music with lots of analogue synthesizers & sequencing. I picked up this album right here at Amazon & I paid alot for it, but man was it worth it! For fans of John Carpenter, this is a collectors item & it's very hard to find a copy in good condition so do yourself a favour & buy it now while they are in stock! Highly Recommended!!

The best of Carpenter's Halloween scores,
By
This review is from: Halloween III: The Season Of The Witch - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
That's right i said it, Halloween 3 is John Carpenter's best score he did for the halloween films. Don't get me wrong I LOVE the others but, Carpenter shows more depth and a musical genius here. The electronic score is errie and atmospheric, you can feel a real sense of un-easyness while listening to this alone in the dark. John Carpenter and Alan Howarth did an awesome job and it's really some of their finest work. Too bad a deluxe edition hasn't been released, maybe one day.

Great Electronic Score,

Halloween 3 is possibly the weakest in the series, and definitely the most disliked by fans of the genre. Had it been named something other than Halloween 3 (how about simply "Season of the Witch"?), it may have fared better. But it didn't have Michael Myers, it was only somewhat scary, and none of the character (nor actors) are very compelling. BUT... The score is terrific. A bold, confident, diverse mix of steely analog electronic music from the 80's. This score both has the Carpenter/Howarth sound, and a wild mix of spooky minimalism, and driving, powerful synthesizers. But unlike a lot of electronic scores from days gone by, this one doesn't sound thin, or weak, or even dated. And it didn't stand out as being blatantly electronic on film. Sure, skip the movie, but if you can find this CD, buy it. You won't regret it. |
