5.0 out of 5 stars We read this every night - it's not even Halloween!
My daughter is 3.5, and has ask for this book to be read to her almost every night since buying it for her 2 Halloween's ago. Thie illustrations are beautiful, and the story of the two kittens is catchy. My little girl can recite it word for word, and loves to find something new in the colorful pictures each time we flip the pages. This is a great read regardless if it...

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible example!
It is so sad to me that in order to capture a child's attention people think they need to write a book about the main characters, be they children or kittens, disobeying. The two kittens in this book are getting into mischief on every page, from popping balloons the father cat has just blown up to painting their stuffed animals with face paint and sneaking off to eat...

I saw this book and had to have it for my little niece! Young children will enjoy reading and seeing all the mischief little kittens Trick and Treat get into as they help their mother and father prepare for a Halloween party. The illustrations are just wonderful and each page has a portion that is decorated in a metallic color that shows through from under a flap that has a small cut-out. You lift the flap to see what mischief the kittens are into. And you also get to see how the metallic color fits into the illustration. It's a shiny bit of color, and it really adds a fun element to the illustrations. I think pre-schoolers will love Trick and Treat, and this book! Turn off the TV and read it with your kids!

My daughter, who is 18 months old, loves this book. The art is very cute, and well drawn, lots of fall colors. Nice (thin cardboard-like) sturdy pages, not flimsy paper. Story line is cute; it is about two naughty kittens, Trick and Treat, who are always getting into trouble while they help their parents prepare for a Halloween party at their house. There are lift the flap and different sparkly paper on all but two of the pages. The last pages both open up to reveal the whole party in full swing and Trick and Treat asleep under the table. The rhyming is a bit awkward at first, but you get use to the rhythm after reading it a couple of times. Exert from the book -
"Father Cat and little Treat set out their creations. But somebody has made a mess of all their preparations. (Open the flap to read)For silly Trick's all tangled up, in heaps of decorations."
Overall a good book that I would recommend to any parent.

This is a sweet little story about kittens preparing for a Halloween party and getting into lots of trouble. The lift flaps display brightly colored patches that are incorporated into the story. It will make a nice tradition for kids and the interactive quality of the flaps will keep children interested. I wish it had some different 'pop up' like elements or patches that felt different, but it's still a good book at a good price. Plus, even though it's about Halloween, it's not scary. So if you have sensitive children, this is a good book for them.

Children like holiday books, and this one is a cute one. While not award winning, young children will certainly enjoy this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible example!, October 29, 2010
This review is from: The Halloween Kittens (Templar) (Hardcover)
It is so sad to me that in order to capture a child's attention people think they need to write a book about the main characters, be they children or kittens, disobeying. The two kittens in this book are getting into mischief on every page, from popping balloons the father cat has just blown up to painting their stuffed animals with face paint and sneaking off to eat candy in the corner. Yet there is no correction and the story is basically about how cute they are. It is no wonder that children behave so much worse than they did a couple of generations ago. Our grandparents and parents read stories about children who received appropriate consequences for their actions (those original fairy tales where everything didn't always turn out sunshine and roses) and learned something. Our children will read this book and hear the message that being disobedient is cute and desirable. The message is all the more powerful because it is so subtle!
