Been there, seen that, September 11, 2006
This review is from: Halloween (Leisure Arts #4670) (Paperback)
Every year I anxiously await new Halloween books. As a fan of the Leisure Arts books, I was thrilled to see their new release, simply titled "Halloween." I didn't know that Leisure Arts was a subsidiary of Better Homes and Gardens. This book is culled from the much larger "Big Book of Halloween" distributed by Better Homes and Gardens itself. I didn't count them, but it seems that there are less than 10 new ideas in this book. Both books are beautifully photographed, but if you own one, you pretty much own them both. One complaint is that they both stress jack-o-lantern carving. For a holiday that has been celebrated in this country since the late 1800s, it seems that they could suggest other decorations by now.

ALL YOU NEED TO PULL OFF A SPOOK-TACULAR HALLOWEEN!, August 24, 2006
This review is from: Halloween (Leisure Arts #4670) (Paperback)
This one has it all and what I especially like:
1. The suggestions are not "tacky" but look like you spent a lot of time and effort to pull off ideas which will definitely get "oohs" and "aahs" from friends and neighbors as well as CHILDREN, who will find the ideas magical and just spooky enough to add excitment.
2. The carving tips are among the best I've ever read and will help you produce detailed looks without requiring professional artistic skills. EASY TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS.
3. A Costume section with very original ideas.
4. And, of course, what would Halloween be without the usual
party ideas? Follow the guidelines and ideas in this book and I guarantee your guests won't have a moment of boredom - They'll be delighted by the decorations, the Jack-o-lantern Pinata and the treats (which, again, are a bit on the eerie side, but not too terrifying)From invitations to such refreshments as Snake pizzas, easy Witch, cat and bat cookies and special hot chocolate with floating "ghosts', your party is sure to be a delight! And very, very EASY to pull together, a plus for those with limited time!
By the way, there is a special section for CHILDREN'S PARTIES and another section for ADULT PARTIES, with more grown-up fare but plenty of holiday atmosphere. Hey, who says Halloween is JUST for kids?
5. Life size (or nearly life size) patterns, making crafts extremely easy to follow.
I psrticularly liked the way the author of this book found ways to use household materials, from old bikes to rakes, tin cans, old greeting cards, etc. to come up with creative Halloween decor.
