Fun Read Aloud Book!,
By History_of_Art_Geek (Phoenix, AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Halloween Night (Hardcover)
Halloween Night is Hatch's first work, and although clever, it's not original. Several others have borrowed the same beat in a Halloween book, This is the House that Jack Built, well before this work was published. While the rhythm for Halloween Night is unoriginal, the artwork is innovative. The paintings are saturated in deep hues: blues, greens, oranges, and reds, and although the illustrations are rich in color, they are not dark and creepy. The pictures are happy, humorous, and carry a wonderful comic expression. This is a short book that's fun to read aloud, and is most appropriated by the 2 to 5 crowd. It takes less then a minute to read from cover to cover, but I like to read it with emphasis, so it takes me a bit longer. The writing flows and the word selections are appropriate for the age group. Halloween Night is a cheerful choice for the young ones.
