Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

PreS-Gr. 2. "Cats and bats and witches' hats!" Ghingna's latest offering celebrates all things associated with the "happy, haunted night." Upbeat, bouncy rhymes describe familiar experiences--selecting a pumpkin, telling ghost stories, taking a younger sibling on trick-or-treat rounds--as well as more fantastical scenarios, such as choosing a "Monster Pet." Ghingna's consistent rhythm and beat emphasizes the silly scenarios that will generate laughs, especially among Halloween veterans who may recognize their own past mishaps: "The year I dressed up as a clown / my silly nose kept falling down." McCauley's graphic, bold illustrations, in acid green, purple, orange, and black, are occasionally crowded and indistinct, but little ones will still enjoy the playful rendering of creatures that are more silly than scary. 4.0 out of 5 stars Another sweet picture book on Halloween, July 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Halloween Night (Running Press Picture Books) (Hardcover)
I collect picture books on Halloween, which is my favorite holiday. I like this one because of the silhouette-style of illustration. Just the right amount of "spookiness" but charming enough that it's not overly scary for the very littlest children.
