5.0 out of 5 stars Carpenter's classic score., October 12, 2001
By
This review is from: Halloween: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Carpenter's simplistic score is every bit as famous as John Williams's score for Jaws, probably because it is so rhythmic and easy to remember.

This the 1983 remix release supervised by Carpenter and his then partner Alan Howarth, so the music is altered. There is a thumping bass beat beneath the Halloween Theme that did not exist in the original score (but was in the score for the sequel) and the tones are ever so slightly off, the piano not sounding quite as icy as it had in the film.

But these are minor quibbles. The music is still classic stuff and this disc is a required one for the director/composer's biggest fans. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good soundtrack, October 21, 2007
This review is from: Halloween: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I'll make my review short so here it is:

If your looking for the original michael myers halloween music look no further, this is indeed the better soundtrack than the special edition one. This soundtrack includes all the music you hear, except Mr.Sandman, from the original halloween film. This soundtrack doesn't have voice clips within the tracks so if you want just the music, buy this soundtrack.

5.0 out of 5 stars The quintessential collection of scary songs!, August 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Halloween: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Creepy, goose-bump inducing, spooky....I can't even listen to this CD when I'm alone at home, or else I get the uncontrollable feeling that Michael Myers himself is stalking me in my own house! Play it for the trick-or-treaters, or when you're in a weird mood, meditate to it....classical, supernatural, paranormal, mysterious and spiritual, really gets your mind thinking about the unknown. Halloween is that one night of the year when anything seems possible....

5.0 out of 5 stars Best in my Collection!, October 26, 2005
This review is from: Halloween: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I love to collect all sorts of scary and suspense film scores and this one is the top in my collection. Like I said before I collect film score cd's. The others i enjoy listening to are the following:

*The Amityville Horror by Lalo Scifrin
*The Exorcist by Various composers
*Psycho by Bernard Herrmann
*Cape Fear by Bernard Herrmann/Elmer Bernstein
*The Others by Alejandro Amenabar
*What Lies Beneath by Alan Silvestri
*Halloween (of course) by John Carpenter

If you enjoy hearing scary and suspense music that is written for films, be sure to check "Halloween" out, plus all of the other cd's that I listed above. You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!, October 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Halloween: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This score is the scariest score on the planet that I've heard, and must be bought by everyone. This CD has, first off, the classic Halloween theme, and after that all of the terror put into a musical score. Listen to it with the lights out, and I dare you to not turn them on until you know the CD is over. Don't bother trying to fall asleep listening to this CD, you'll actually have the worst case of insomnia you ever had. Scary stuff.

If you enjoed this "classic" horror movie, you will be very pleased with this soundtrack. The erie sounds are all here . Perfect for Halloween or whenever you just feel like moshing!I would not suggest this soundtrack for the faint of heart,or those with Situational Depression. You might impress people whom may be thinking that you listen to classical music. The Halloween soundtrack is full of chills and thrills!

5.0 out of 5 stars A 'must have' soundtrack for front yard Halloween hauntings!, October 21, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Halloween: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
As evoking of 'dread' and 'terror' now as it was 20 years ago, Carpenter's original 'Halloween' theme sets the tone for any October 31st gathering. Set your home stereo speakers in the front windows, put on this CD, then bring on the 'Trick or Treaters'...!

5.0 out of 5 stars Moody and evocative; a must-have for horror film fans., July 21, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Halloween: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Rarely has a film score so completely and thoroughly established the mood and atmosphere of the stroy as that of "Halloween", the 1978 classic frightmare written, directed - and scored - by John Carpenter. The haunting strains of "Also Sprach Zarathustra" which introduce "2001: A Space Odyssey," and the five-note greeting of the mother ship in "Close Encounters," are widely recognized compositions because of the images they evoke. But in his score to "Halloween", Carpenter uses just ten notes to convey all the dread, apprehension and terror that his characters feel throughout the story. Moreover, the score exists on its own, independent of the movie for which it was written, as a part of our cultural and cinematic folklore.Evocative and atmospheric, each of the tracks on this CD send chills down the spine of all who listen...whether they have seen the film or not! It is not garish and expansive, it is not operatic or orc! hestral, but as Carpenter obviously knew, and this soundtrack CD illustrates, sometimes less is a whole lot more.(Note: In the upcoming "Halloween H2O", the disappointing sequel, the original music is used in a couple of key scenes to cue the viewer that 'something scary is about to happen." It is a transparent, and somewhat pathetic, mis-use of the classic score.)
