4.0 out of 5 stars The Strawberry Shortcake: Halloween Play, August 5, 2010
This review is from: The Halloween Play (Strawberry Shortcake) (Paperback)
ISBN 0448439107 - The book doesn't say where it was printed or manufactured, something I always look for these days. Amazon lists the books as for ages 4 to 8, the book itself doesn't say.

Strawberry Shortcake and her friends gather at Angel Cake's house to make Halloween costumes and once they've made their choices, they realize it would be a shame to wear their wonderful costumes just for trick or treating. They agree that they should do something more, but the agreeing ends there. Some of the kids want to have a haunted house, some want to put on a play and Strawberry Shortcake, left with the tie-breaking vote, wants to please everyone and ends up making everyone unhappy. The haunted house is too big a job for so few of the friends and the play needs more characters, not to mention a set. Finally, Strawberry Shortcake has a brilliant idea and invites her feuding friends for breakfast, where they come to an agreement - Halloween turns out to be as much fun as they'd originally imagined.

There's this very (or should I say BERRY) "Strawberry Shortcake" thing - "very" is always said "berry". This would be only slightly annoying to me and cute to everyone else if it was 100% of the time, but somehow the editor always seems to miss at least one "very". Considering how short the books are, it really shouldn't be so difficult to catch them all. The story, written by author Eva Mason, is a good way for children to learn about co-operation and compromise while enjoying a story about some fun characters. Girls, more than boys, are the audience here - as evidenced by the uber-cuteness and the single boy in the book. Illustrator John Huxtable's take up just about every inch of every page and are as bright and colorful as anything Strawberry-Shortcake-related always is. Those looking for a Halloween scare, look elsewhere, but if you're looking for a non-caloric sugar rush, this is it. If you like this one, be sure to check out Happy Halloween, Strawberry Shortcake!, too.

Hey, all Strawberry Shortcake books are really fun, cute and wholesome. You can't go wrong. We always read this Halloween one around Halloween time, but also during the year too.
