Joanna loved it!,

This review is from: It's Halloween, You 'Fraidy Mouse! (Geronimo Stilton, No. 11) (Mass Market Paperback)
The book was about a rodent called Geronimo Stilton, who was scared of holidays, trips, ghost
and other scary things. He is also the publisher of the Rodents Gazette. He has a sister called Thea, an annoying cousin called Trap and a nephew called Benjamin. The reasons I liked the book: 1. It was very funny when Trap did tricks on him. One of his tricks was to put red paint on the door so Geronimo Stilton thought it was blood. 2. I liked the part when it was the Halloween Party. 3. I also liked the Halloween Book because it had lots of things you can do on Halloween. You should read it you know! It has information about Halloween. You will laugh when you read Traps's tricks. My daughter had started to read "chapter books" but found them a bit boring (lots of writing and no pictures!). To keep her motivated I reasearched and came across this serie. I bought the first 3 and she loved it. In fact she begged me to buy more books from the serie. I did get 10 more and she read them all in a couple of days! The good thing is she re-reads them to herself and her 4 year old brother. They find some stories interesting, others fun or just plain silly. I have found that, for example, the use of different fonts and colors for words in a sentence (not just word after word of black and white as she puts it) keeps her interested. I plan to buy the rest of the serie and I am sure my yougest will still find it a great read when he gets to "chapter books".

The following review is by Isabella(6yrs):
"crumbling cheese treats it was halloween the spookiest day of the year and my nephew benjamin had dragged me to a graveyard to do research for my newest book. there i met creepella von cacklefur a very spooky mouse who yikes tried to lock me up in her coffin oh how would a fraidy mouse like me ever survive." Parental comment: Halloween may not be our favorite holiday but this book presents a good vehicle to help the children read. Creepy goings on at the mouse house. Plus how to make costumes and carve pumpkins. I guess its alright. But there sure are better Stilton books to chose from.

I liked all the funny parts of this book. Like when Geronimo got scared of the fake ghost and sticky fake blood on the doorknob. I really liked when Geronimo met Creepella! I read this book in about an hour.

Horribly written and mean-spirited,

What an awful book. The Geronimo Stilton series is written pretty badly in the first place, but my son likes them so I endure reading them out loud. This one is particularly awful, however, as Geronimo becomes the object of desire for a nice but morbid looking mouse named Creepella. He pretty much dodges her, goes on an on about how creepy she looks, and makes up a story to get away from her at a party, then the story is suddenly over. What a horrible lesson for kids, teaching them to lie and deceive people just to get out of hanging out with them. And Stilton has a happy ending right after that, so he doesn't even get a come-uppance for his horrible behavior. This book is truly awful.

My eight year old loves these books. He read some at school and came home begging me to get him some. The stories are fun and just right for him age.

Love the series, don't love this particular book,
This review is from: It's Halloween, You 'Fraidy Mouse! (Geronimo Stilton, No. 11) (Mass Market Paperback)
I love Geronimo Stilton, however this book left me feeling disappointed when I finished it with my five year old daughter. There didn't seem to be a clear plot line and it was shorter than the other books, due to the 30 pages of special activities. My daughter wanted me to read the special activities, they were pretty silly. I almost felt ripped off, even though it was a library book, since some of the crafts were costumes and it told you in minimal detail to paint your face and then get a costume, basically. I love a lot of the books in the series, but this one just didn't do it for me. |
