One of the best debut albums ever.,
By
This review is from: Hallway of Dreams (Audio CD)
This is one of the best albums that i own. its a brilliant work of art. i just found it one day, and gave it a try, and i was actually looking out for their previous albums, not knowing this was actually their first!
about the music, its just so beautiful. i don't think this band can actually be compared to any of the big names and that's the beauty of it. Its very difference, with a little bit of eastern influence, and very pleasant to listen to. The mood is a bit sad and depressing though its great to listen to. There is beautiful blend of music, the drums and the vocals, especially are really nice. Judiths voice is very simple and unique, and in some songs, you can hear the emotional grip she has got, makes a huge difference to the song, and i really love it. The best songs of the albums are, The craving, balance of power (the best of the best!), November, Persephone (beautiful one...)and her white dress. Not like the others are not all that good, they are really nice, and these stand out. The songs are not long, that's makes the album a bit short, yet maintains that great listening experience. This one is a definite buy for easy listening. not very bombastic or loud, and i would call this mellow metal! Its just a lovely album, please buy this and enjoy the difference. Cant wait for their second album...!

Revelation,

I couldn't agree more with the other twee reviewers. But I didn't accidentally stumble upon this CD because I am Dutch and I read somewhere that Ivar de Graaf, former drummer of Within Temptation, was putting together a new band. So when it appeared I instantly got hold of a copy and the first week it didn't leave my CD-player. And a while ago I actually saw them perform in a venue nearby and also live they didn't disappoint. Judith Rijnveld has the voice of an angel (and the looks to boot). I'm also a fan of Within Temptation, but the music of Kingfisher Sky actually is a lot more appealing to me, not so bombastic and with a lot more feeling and melody and even folk-influences. I can't wait for their next CD to arrive (should be sometime this year). Definitely a must if you like bands such as Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, Stream of Passion, Autumn (another great Dutch gothic band) or Mostly Autumn.

Excellent Modern Prog,
By
This review is from: Hallway of Dreams (Audio CD)
I stumbled across this one by pure accident while searching for somthing entirely different. I'm glad I did. While Kinfisher Sky's "Hallway of Dreams" falls into the progressive rock category, it's not the ulra-complex uber prog from the days of yore. Kingfisher Sky carries on the prog feel with beautiful melody and harmony. Hallway of Dreams combines hard-hitting with mellow, adds a generous portion of emotion to create their own brand of prog that should appeal to fans of Porcupine Tree, Spock's Beard, some of the more recent Katatonia releases, Pink Floyd, and Riverside just to name a few. The lead vocals are provided by Judith Rijnveld, who does a wonderful job of providing both power and emotion in proper proportions. Backed by a solid rhythm section, crunchy giutars, and some mellow piano/synth work, the vocals really set the mood for any particular track. The porduction is quite good as well. Like the rest of the album, it seems to be just right...not over-produced as some modern progger's feel the need to do. The whole album has a great flow too it that makes it really easy to get into and just sit and listen to the music. Pick it up if you're in the mood for somthing thats a bit different. Recommended listening.
