5.0 out of 5 stars Vacuum Cleaner-Halo 3290
My husband is a vacuum freak, we have every kind of vacuum imaginable, so when this one came out, I knew we were going to purchase it. Well, it came the other day. This is the most unbelievable vacuum they have come up with yet. The ultraviolet light provides you with the ability to see stuff that normally you wouldn't see. 3.0 out of 5 stars Worked great for the first month, still waiting for repair, November 14, 2007
This review is from: Halo 3290 UV-ST Ultraviolet Vacuum (Kitchen)
I purchased this machine after seeing an add on TV. I got the machine home, and was actually excited about vacuuming. The UV light on the vacuum seemed to do a good job at destroying all the dust mites in my carpet. I have to say it looks very cheap, and doesn't look very durable. Within a month and half of receiving this machine, I began to have problems with UV light. It would turn on sometimes, and sometimes it would not come on at all. Finally it stopped working all together.

I was able to find a local repair shop who is a warranty station for Halo vacuums. I dropped it off over 3 weeks ago, and the owner of the shop keeps telling me he is waiting on the part. This is very frustrating as I know have to go back to my ultra-heavy 15 year old Kirby which I kept only for the basement.

My experience with this Halo has been the vacuum is great when it is working, but the service after the sale has left a lot to be desired.

This is the most unbelievable vacuum they have come up with yet. The ultraviolet light provides you with the ability to see stuff that normally you wouldn't see. The only thing I wish is that it was bagless-it would be one less thing for us to worry about (the bags) but their point is that all of the critters that are vacuumed up will be held in a bag so that they will die! I would recommend it highly!

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Poor Quality, Expect To Have Repair Issues Early and Frequently, November 2, 2007
By
This review is from: Halo 3290 UV-ST Ultraviolet Vacuum (Kitchen)
The Halo vacuum has a very neat concept behind it. The idea of using UV light to kill all bacteria and organisms is a brilliant marketing idea. How well this machine actually destroys those little nasties, I'm not sure of. What I am sure of is the poor quality of this vacuum.

The Halo vacuum comes 100% assembled in the box. The handle is telescoping allowing it fit nicely in the box. Since day one, after telescoping the handle up, I have yet to be able to make the handle go back down. The button that is supposed to control the handle actually broke off and now the handle is stuck in the up posistion.

The vacuum cleaner is very basic, as there are no attachments on board. There's no way to use any hose on this machine, so you are limited to cleaning the floor only. Since there's no hose on the machine, I don't really have a way of testing how much suction the motor creates, but I can tell you vacuuming pet hair is no simple task as it took 2-3 swipes with the machine to completely vacuum the hair off the floor.

After using the machine probably 7-8 times, I bumped the front of the machine into the baseboard (it was rather hard, as I was trying to finish ASAP) and the UV light went out, and now won't come back on. The main feature of the vacuum is now not functional, and it's almost brand new.

I have tried ordering the part (UV lightbulb) and to no surprise, the part has been back ordered for 3 weeks. We have also tried to order more machines, also backordered. When we try to call the company to find out where our order is, there is never any answer. We have no idea when, or if we are going to get this part. Even the bags, which without them the vacuum is useless, are currently on back order.

If the vacuum cleaner had costed $100, I would understand that you'll get what you pay for, but this vacuum retails for $400-$500, and for that price, the vacuum should definitely not have broken so soon.

The company is a brand new company, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt, and hope that they get their act together, but in the meantime I will let anybody who asks me know TO STAY AWAY FROM HALO!

2.0 out of 5 stars My Suggestion: Purchase at a retailer with a liberal return policy, September 10, 2008

When one of our Lindhaus uprights died, I ordered the Halo 3290 from Costco. It's currently offered for $175 delivered. That appeared to be a good deal from my brief comparising shopping.

Pop the handle in and you're ready to vacuum. First impressions? Not terribly heavy for a non-self propelled unit. It is most definately louder than any vacuum I have owned. But more than that, our particular unit is PIERCING to the ears. There is a very high pitched whine? that is simply quite awful.

I like the way it grooms our plush carpet. I can't attest to it's germ-killing abilities but since we have allergy sufferers in the house, I was hoping for the best. The attachments are a joke, an after thought perhaps.

I vacuumed the entire home, finally ending in our master bedroom. We have a wood bed with side rails and I was unable to pull the handle down enough to fit under the bed. Huh? Tried multiple times, and the vacuum simply does not lay flat enough to fit under the bed. Well, that is a deal buster for me.

Thankfully, I purchased this at Costco.com and they offer a liberal return policy. My suggestion to anyone considering this model would be to shop where you can return it if it fails to impress.

Like another reviewer, I got this on sale at Sear's. I liked the idea of the UV light killing germs, and Oreck's got a great reputation for vacuums, right?

Not with THIS thing. It has crummy, and I do mean crummy, pick up. You keep going over and over the same spot again and again.

But I thought, well, the UV light will kill all those germs. Even though the vacuum feels cheap and you gotta watch to make sure you don't whack the light underneath, you still FEEL like you're killing germs.

It's good if you feel that way, cause that's all this thing does is makes you FEEL like you've done something. I did a little research after I bought it (bad idea, AFTER you buy something): UV light doesn't penetrate cloth. And how long do you have to hold the light over the carpet? And how will you know if you killed anything?

Just what I need. A crummy vacuum with crummy pick up that has a gimmicky light that allegedly kills germs.

I feel like sucker of the month. Back to the Dyson!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing!, December 26, 2008

I bought this for only $200 at Sears. I thought I was getting a bargain but when I brought the vacuum home and used it I could see why it was marked down. It doesn't suck well at all. My carpet is dark and I could clearly see the lint and pet hair that was left behind. It did an even worse job on my tile and wood floors. The stairs were not worth the effort. I wouldn't suggest this unless product to anyone. Mine is going back to the store asap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best for allergies, October 28, 2008

I have a severe allergy to dust mites and have tried everything, including the purchase of hard wood floors, uv lights for my heating ducts, etc.
This BY FAR worked the best! I can't believe that it actually worked (my friend was joking that I was gullible and would sell me a vacuum with a flashlight attached too). Here is how I know that it worked:
1. I would break out in red rashes all across my body when there is high dust mite exposure, (typically during fall and winter). Most of the spots have completely disappeared.
2. I can tell when I get lazy and don't vacuum. I get irritations and need to vacuum again. Also, when I stay at a friends house, the irritations come back.
I would recommend vacuuming at least once a week and after 2 or 3 weeks you should see a difference (if you suffer from dust mite allergies). You probably won't notice anything else other than dust mite.
The only bad thing is that the vacuum itself is not that great. I bought this when it came out initially and had to send it in twice due to a manufacturing defect. I don't care about the vacuum itself though, its the uv light that has worked the best.
What a great invention...Thank you Halo!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars It Doesn't Suck!, January 21, 2010

I paid over $200.00 for this vacuum at a retail store. I was impressed with ultraviolet light--a very good idea. But after the first week, it would not pick up anything. I inspected everything for clogs and didn't find any. When I tried calling the 800 number it was no longer active, and the Halo website is no more than a web page. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone until they perfect the technology.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Customer Service, October 15, 2008
This review is from: Halo 3290 UV-ST Ultraviolet Vacuum (Kitchen)
I bought my Halo vacuum about one year ago and was impressed by it's overall performance. It picked up everything on the floor and I really like the idea of the light. About a month ago my vacuum stopped working, it made a very loud noise and the brush wouldn't turn. I almost just bought a new vacuum because I figured if I paid to send it back they would just tell me I didn't use it properly. I finally decided to call them and the polite representative told me it would be too expensive for me to ship it and although he thought it sounded like I sucked up something I shouldn't have (I probably did!) he would send me out a refurbished unit for a $20 shipping charge. That was Friday and today,Wednesday, I received a new vacuum. He told me to keep my old one for parts. So far I am completely satisfied whith my halo vacuum and the company that made it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I recommend this vacuum, December 20, 2010
This review is from: Halo 3290 UV-ST Ultraviolet Vacuum (Kitchen)
I recommended this vacuum today when asked which machine to buy. I like the fact that I actually feel better as I use it. I thought this might be my imagination so I had my house keeper use it. I explained the function of the vac but didnt tell her much more. She commented that she felt good after using it- like she noticed it was easier to breathe. Not the usual thing to happen after vacuuming. With vacuums your nose and lungs are filled with dust mites and other nasties in the air. Usually you feel worse- more tired.
I like this maachine and recommend it since its easy to use, kills the germs and I love the convienient light. I feel it could suction a little bit more than it does but overall this is my favorite to date.
