The IR controlled flying Halo Hornet is extremely fun to fly. It is made for use indoors, however can be flown outdoors if there is no wind. In fact, I highly recommend taking it outside to a nice grassy area when you first learn to fly. There are just too many obstacles indoors.

This product is supposedly age rated 8+, but it really should be 10+ or maybe for adults. They are not very durable and can be easily damaged. I bought 3 of these for myself and my boys aged 10 & 12. One was DOA out of the box, and of the two remaining, only one is still flying. My 12 year old broke his while adjusting the trim for stable flight. It spun a few times and he cut the power to avoid crashing it into a wall. It dropped onto our carpeted floor and the counter weight on top of the rotor snapped. A whopping 1 minute of flight time and $[..] bucks went down the drain. So I tried contacting NKOK the manufacturer. They do not offer parts or service. I tried krazy glue to repair it, but that didn't work. Without the part, the toy spins out of control. Such an essential part required for flight should be better made...not cheap brittle plastic.

Overall, it is a fun toy to play with. But I would not recommend it simply because it's not very durable and there is no product support. I would think at the very least, they would have included a spare part set, because I'm sure it's happened to others who own this toy.

I don't usually leave reviews, but after watching my 13-year-old son enjoy this toy for many hours I knew this was one product that deserved a quick note.

Over the years we have tried to enjoy other remote flying toys, but none of them lasted very long and always ended in great disappointment. This product proved to be the highlight of Christmas morning! Yes, it takes a few tries to get the feel of the remote controls, but that's to be expected. My son crashed it several times and it came through without a scratch.

He can now fly the helicopter with great precision and make flawless landings... it just takes practice which is half the fun!

GREAT PRODUCT!!!

I bought two of these - one for my 10 year old son, and one for his friend as a gift. One of them crashed on its first flight and broke the tip of one of the propellers off, rendering it useless. The other still functions, but is extremely difficult to fly for more than a few seconds without crashing - which explains why the other one is now ruined.

My son hardly plays with his Hornet (the one that's not broken) because it's too difficult to fly. You have to be extremely - and I mean EXTREMELY - patient to get the exact amount of throttle in order to get it to lift off and not hit the ceiling immediately. If you manage to get the throttle figured out, good luck steering it. Here again, the directional controls are far too touchy. What kid has the patience? I consider myself patient, and this toy is just way too much work to be fun.

On the plus side, it looks cool. And the fact that it sort of flies is exciting for a few seconds. But I wish I hadn't wasted my money on this toy.

Over all the Hornet is a blast! The plastic stabilizer and prop blades continue to be a problem. They break very, very easily. Especially if you are a 9 year old and have some pretty hard landings. I have had to reinforce the stabilizer myself by heating very small spring steel pieces and inserting them into each end of the "broken" stabilizer arms. Its a pain but it works great and is actually much stronger than the original piece. My child has learned how to fly it very well though. It works fantastic and is great fun. Just watch out for walls, tables, lamps, chairs and other furniture items because they will break the rotors and stabilizer.

My family loves this toy. It is perfected for indoors and limited ranged for outdoors with no wind. Super durable as my 8 yr old and 4 yr old have slammed and smashed it into the ceiling, walls, etc. Charges in about 20 minutes using the 6 AA batteries in the remote control through an integraded wire in the remote that connects to the helo.

Took me about 10 mins to get the controls down. Not hard at all. Get the trim worked out first and you'll be set. Don't let go of the throttle all at once or else the helo stops letting gravity take over.

As far as I can tell after a few hours with this thing it is not capable of sustained controlled flight. This one won't even hover stably, and the quality is Chinese all the way. You might have more fun if you get a $20 bill and a $10 bill and fold them into paper airplanes and then light them on fire and toss them.

Look, for the price, you are not going to get a Trident submarine. But for what it is, this is a fun little gadget with reasonable build quality. With a little practice you can hover and otherwise control this chopper pretty well. It is middling durable. I recommend playing with it out on a grass field; do that and it should do fine (that's what my son does.) If you fly it around in the house, or on a patio, you are probably asking for trouble. RJB.

This toy helicopter was a Christmas present for my 11 year old. It worked fine at first then would not take off correctly although the toy looked OK, nothing broken or bent. Had to send it back to NKOK for replacement after many email to them asking for assistance. Long and short is for $40.00 it's not worth the headache...
