4.0 out of 5 stars Halo 3 Legendary Collection Arbiter
This is a review for the colored Arbiter figure. For a review on the Active Camo Arbiter look in my other reviews on profile page.

This Arbiter figure stands 6.5 inches tall. This is figures format is statue. Meaning there are no movable parts. The pose is well chosen. The Arbiter is in an attack stance while holding an energy sword.

1.0 out of 5 stars "Colors May Vary"
Full Disclosure: My friend actually bought this(not me), and ended up getting the "cloaked" version. Cloaked version = cheap, plasticy looking version. As others have said, this is McFarlane cutting corners and under delivering. My friend is essentially po'd enough to not want to buy from McFarlane ever again. I do not blame him. Stay away.

The design is highly detailed and acurate. I was impressed at the level of details observed in the armor and skin texturing. The paint helps to distinguish between skin, blue armor straps (unlike the active camo arbiter which is difficult to see) and golden armor plates. The energy sword which is a mottle of light blues and whites.

The 7.25-inch wide by 3.75-inch deep base is just as textured as the figure. Unfortanantly the color reminds me of dried mud. The Arbiter stands on the base by way of two pegs which are difficult to insert into his feet, but once on there he stays put.

Overall this figure is an accurate portrayal of the Halo 3 Arbiter.

I received the package on the 10th. The statue's box was in perfect condition with no dings or dents. I was very pleased to find the painted statue, but I would have been just as thrilled to have the "active camo" version. This figure is very durable and it fit into the base very easily and snug. I can see this setting on my bookshelf for a long time to come.

Considering that you can get the lame "active camo" version, this buy is a gamble. That said, it is only $8 and shipping so it isn't a substantial loss if you get the unpainted one.

I got the painted version andit is pretty dang awesome. The material it is made out of isn't hard plastic, it is a softer resin. It isn't going to melt or fall apart if you touch it, but keep in mind that it is fragile and you can't change its post, so don't try to bend it and remember not to pick it up by the arms or sword if you don't want to break it.

The detail is spot on and like a previous comment said you can distinguish between armor, the under armor layer, and skin. Everything from the creases on his forearm armor to his flashlight to his intricate right pauldron is present and accounted for, including the blue lines on the under armor layer and his mandible guards. Also as you can see in the picture this is of his Halo 3 armor, so it has a golden tint to it rather than silver.

For a size comparison, it is a slightly smaller scale than the Spartans on the Legendary Edition Noble Team statue, but not that much smaller, so they look good next to each other.

Also note that if I would have gotten the "active camo" version I would have been very unhappy, so good luck if you buy this!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed..., November 14, 2010
= Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars

As in Inception, the only word I could muster with this purchase was "disappointed."

I wanted the colored figure, as it looks very nice, and I ended up getting the "active camouflage" version, which looks cheap, and frankly, ugly. As Billy said, it saves time and money in production as they only have to pop a clear plastic part out of the injection mold, cut off the flashing, and there you have it. No painting involved (which is most likely done by hand, meaning you have to pay a human worker a lot more money comparatively). If I were a manufacturer, and I could market the item with an attractive image (meanwhile manufacturing another version that is claimed to be "rare"), and then refrain from giving you a choice of which one you want. I could swindle a lot of people. However, your assets would be covered, as you did claim that there was another version and that "colors may vary." And the term "rare" is a subjective term, open to interpretation. The only solid definition that I can think of that would actually hold up in court is that it has less than the majority in the population.

Bottom line, McFarlane Toys is trying to save money and pissing a lot of people off. Not sure if Microsoft didn't give them a hefty enough contract to manufacture the figure, and McFarlane Toys had to do what they had to do... not sure if Microsoft was the decision maker in the odd marketing scheme (wouldn't be a surprise)... but I am quite dissatisfied with this purchase.

This is my favorite of the Legendary Collection. The Arbiter is so detailed. My energy sword was slightly bent, but it hardly took away from it. He doesn't move but he looks really cool!

Make absolutely sure you look at the second photograph of this figure before ordering. That's the one I got. It has no painting or coloring at all, being simply a translucent plastic cast figure.

I'm not sure why anyone would want such a thing, unless it is for someone who wants to paint it themselves.

The only reason I can see why the manufacturer would want to vary the color is give them an excuse to save money on production cost. The fact that you don't get to choose which you want supports that interpretation.

So unless you are prepared to accept something that looks like a crystal statue made of plastic, don't get this.
