Product Description

From the most successful entertainment launch in history, comes the most anticipated video game soundtrack of the holiday season. Bungie created a new variation on the Game's musical themes this time around. Martin O'Donnell, Bungie's composer incorporated a full live orchestra and chorus which goes "above and beyond" what they've done in the past. Album produced by Nile Rodgers.

In terms of mood (both martial and eerie) and structure (the score is divided into 10 suites), there's no major departure from the previous installments in the Halo series here. The biggest difference is that this time, composers Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori seemed to have had a bigger budget and were able to hire a large orchestra. Where the synthetic feel of the previous two CDs sometimes made them feel a little thin and cheap, Halo 3 has the means to match its ambitions: This music would not shame a big-budget Hollywood sci-fi/action movie. Tracks such as "To Kill a Demon" and "This Is the Hour" (both of which, typically, recycle the composers' own themes) illustrate well this expanded sonic palette. The second CD ends with a hidden track ("Love Your Friends") by a band called Princeton, a fairly run-of-the-mill pop-punk effort which won a competition to be included on the soundtrack and which feels jarring compared to the rest of the music here. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

If you thought the previous Halo soundtracks were home runs, Marty O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori hit this one out of the known galaxy (or three radii from the galactic core..).

The switch from MIDI instruments to a full, live orchestra has made an already outstanding musical journey completely amazing. Many familiar themes make a return, but they sound fuller and more thematic this time around.

The track layout plays in the same order you would experience the music in the game, which I thought was a nice touch compared to Halo 2, v.1. My personal stand-out track is #12 on CD 1, "Follow Our Brothers", the music takes me to the exact memory of that part in the game. Truly outstanding.

I cannot rate this high enough, I could not have desired more from this soundtrack!

As an owner of all the Halo soundtracks available I'd have to say that this is perhaps the best Halo soundtrack yet. Two CDs equals hours of awesome music, both new songs and embellishments of the ones we've come to love. As far as I know, this is the complete set of music from the game, including some bonus material. If you love the music as much as the game, you have to get this album! You will not be disappointed.

With reach coming out and its been sometime since the release of halo 3, i have become rather nostalgic for my the wonderful memories of playing the campaign and the multiplayer for hours. Literally every song on here i can see the level, i can feel the level. Yes i am a nerd so that may affect my review just a bit, but nevertheless, this album is amazing from start to finish that will leave you smiling, crying, mad, and every other emotion out there. This simply is amazing music. Well worth 8-9 bucks for 30+ songs!!!

This is the best Halo soundtrack yet. The sound quality is worlds better than the previous CDs because of the actual orchestra used for the recording. This is a complete musical journey through the Halo 3 game. The terrible songs by horrible bands that were on the Halo 2 soundtrack are gone. There is one band song at the end as a hidden track, so even though it is lame, it doesn't get in the way of the actual music. If you enjoy music from the Halo world, this is a must-buy.

I just received the Halo 3 Soundtrack today and I have to say it is hundred's of times better than the previous soundtracks. Halo 3's OST "Finishes the Fight" just like the game does and does so in high quality sound and "in game" continuity that leaves you wanting more.

Regretfully, the only hinderance to this wonderful soundtrack is the addition of the hidden track (#17) on disc 2 "Love Your Friends" by Princeton... truthfully, while it may've won the contest, it isn't very good but, thankfully, can be skipped since it is at the END of the CD.

A wonderful purchase for ANY Halo fan and hope this isn't the end...

That's right. Halo 1, 2, 3, I've never played. I picked this soundtrack up on a whim at WalMart and I haven't regretted it.

Even in the softer pieces, there's an energy that just doesn't quit it. It's a soundtrack for your own day-to-day life which isn't far from tactical combat.

This is the soundtrack of a company of soldiers in a grueling campaign trying to hit hard while conserving strength. I think all of us can relate.

Every several years a score comes along that goes beyond anything you could of imagined, a score with such thematic beauty, deep action and wonderful storytelling that you can't believe it exists... Halo 3 is such a score. I loved the first Halo score, although (being a film score buff) I was a bit underwhelmed by the midi instruments. This is one of the first problems Halo 3 fixes by using a completely organing orchestra. Another one of the highpoints of the Halo 3 score is the sheer musical genius put into it, while the first score relied heavily on guitar and techno sound effects, Halo 3 effectively blends techno with orchestra to create musical hybrid fusion (succeeding in so many ways.) So I guess you could say that Halo 3 not only transcends all other video game scores, but it trasends half of the film scores released this year. Game music has a new milestone people... it's Halo 3.
