4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, not perfect
Not a bad strategy guide. The campaign mode is geared towards completing the game on Heroic difficulty level with tips on Legendary in dedicated boxes interspersed in the text. The walk-through is thorough while mostly avoiding spoilers. Very detailed explanation off all online modes including coop, firefight, and competitive matchmaking games.

2.0 out of 5 stars Inaccurate
This book provides lots of background information about the story, but everything else is inaccurate. The guide itself is not really helpful, and their tips don't work. I've figured out my own way to get around things easier then the way they do it. Also, the armory unlock section is completely wrong. Everything has the wrong rank and price listed. 4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, not perfect, October 29, 2010

The biggest let down in my opinion was the matchmaking maps...they are absolutely horrid. One overhead view, no breakdown by levels, overly stylized yet somehow fuzzy-looking. I have difficulty learning maps in the game for some reason, so this is an utter fail in my mind.

Pros:
-HUGE, full-color, complete guide
-Good descriptions of weapons, vehicles, and enemies
-Very thorough details of various gametypes
-Nice charts outlining achievements, commendations, and levels

Cons:
-Maps are worthless, very disappointing.
-The writer(s) often try to hard to make the narrative dramatic. The prose often comes off as it was written by a 10th grader for a creative writing assignment in English class.
-There's a large section dedicated to Multiplayer strategy (player roles, etc...) which is generic across any MP shooter and really didn't need to presented in a game guide again for the thousandth time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Halo Reach Strat Guide, April 20, 2011

I have found that it is an enjoyable book just to read. Every gamer has their own way of getting through such a game...however some of the hints are worth while, knowing that it took a great amount of effort to do such a guide, I enjoy it more. I have all the guides to the New Halo series, Halo 3, ODST, and Reach. The game is good, no better than good...GREAT

5.0 out of 5 stars Awe inspiring, January 24, 2011
This review is from: Halo: Reach Signature Series Guide (Official Strategy Guides (Bradygames)) (Paperback)
I normally don't get game guides but I really liked the game so I thought, "ah why not?". It turned out to be a great investment! I used it thoroughly and to my great excitement! It was extremely helpful and the maps were extremely detailed. Others have said the maps are lame and I have no idea what they are talking about. They are perfectly helpful, detailed, illustrated, and yes colorful. This was a guide well beyond my wildest dreams! I had no idea guides could be so helpful, in fact I get more guides now because of it. Do yourself a favor and don't use the online faulty web guides. This on is official, beautiful, clear and even gives a little background to the stroy which I always really like.

1.0 out of 5 stars Where's the maps?, January 14, 2011

This review is from: Halo: Reach Signature Series Guide (Official Strategy Guides (Bradygames)) (Paperback)
This is a big, colorful book, but the walk-throughs for the solo campaign are useless, more a collection of tips ("Stay to the left and go to the Control Room" would be ok if there were maps of the building interiors, but there aren't). Take out the huge illustrations of the characters on almost every page, and the text would only fill about twenty pages; has the look of an comic book ("illustrated novel"); there's so little info that they could have had speech bubbles coming from the illustrations. Well over half of this book is spent on the multiplayer campaigns, so you're much better off getting solo help for free on-line, as another reviewer suggested.

Great guide for those who are beginners or novices to the shooter games. Also helpful for those who are experienced shooters, but don't have all-day to play and explore the game for all the little "things"

2.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but missing the locations for the hardest secrets, September 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Halo: Reach Signature Series Guide (Official Strategy Guides (Bradygames)) (Paperback)
I get the Halo guides primarily to help me out with the locations of weapon drops in MP games (because I don't play them often enough to have them memorized). This guide is thick and colorful, and I liked some of the campaign tips, but I was angry to learn that it gives basically NO information on the location of the secret Data Pads hidden throughout the campaign.

This data pads are similar to the audio logs you found throughout the city in ODST, but are text only and give you some interesting background information. There is a data pad "hidden" in each level of the campaign, and an additional data pad in each level if you play on Legendary difficulty (for a total of 2 in each level). They are mostly in plain sight, but often in an out of the way location, such as the skulls in Halo 3 were. But the Legendary data pads are pretty well hidden. You don't get achievements for finding them though (unlike the Halo 3 and ODST).

This guide devotes one little paragraph box to them and gives you terrible "tips" to find them all. It's like the author didn't even care about them since they weren't connected to achievements. I found a better guide for the data pad locations on the internet for free.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Yet, November 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Halo: Reach Signature Series Guide (Official Strategy Guides (Bradygames)) (Paperback)
Having played every Halo and being one of the few over 60 players I have a unique perspective. I have never liked the Flood segments in the Halo 2 and 3 because the Flood had no real tactics except to overwhelm you with numbers. In Reach there are no Flood segments and at the Hero level the Covenant uses some tactics. I haven't tried the Legendary level but I expect the tactics are even better as well as the elites being harder to kill.

Excellent game.

3.0 out of 5 stars I'm a Halo limited edition/strategy guide "collector", September 29, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Halo: Reach Signature Series Guide (Official Strategy Guides (Bradygames)) (Paperback)
And this strategy guide is the first one from Brady Games that didn't come wrapped in it's plastic, and the spine was bent. We usually purchase from the store when we do get these, but at last minute, getting the limited edition, we ordered off of Amazon. I wasn't pleased seeing it in it's condition when we received it. Good news though, is we usually buy two, one to keep, and one to use for playing. So instead, we're using this one for playing, we'll need to go to the store to get a wrapped one I guess.
