Immediately upon assembly, we found this product to be poorly made. The mesh above the lamp was so poorly designed that it could not be reapplied after the bulb was inserted. It stands askew because poor alignment of the gold dividers in the shaft. Although it serves its basic function of providing light, it was not worth $28.

Please see my review for the American Standard hallogen lamp, because that is what will be shipped to you. I have bought several of these exact lamps from OSH for a much cheaper price and they have all died on me just after the warranty expired. The lamp is very pretty and provides a lot of light, but the quality is just awful. I am not even going to open the box, I'm sending this thing back.

We were first attracted to this lamp becuase we have a favorite painting hanging near a rather dark corner of the living room. We thought this lamp would provide the lighting the painting needed, and it did.

The style of the lamp is classic so that it fits well with most decors. We also liked the heavy base so that while it looks as if it doesn't weigh very much it will not topple. Also, the dimmer switch allows us to adjust lighting for parties.

Let there be light!

I have had no difficulties with changing light bulbs, or putting it together, or moving it and resetting it. I love this light, and it arrived fast, in great shape and has outlasted every other "cheap" lamp I have. I'd buy a dozen more if I needed them--and if I DO need more, this is the one I'd buy.

I have to say that I have not found a $[...] lamp shoddy or "cheap" looking--it WAS cheap! But it's lasted, and been moved and I've replaced the bulb about 7 times. It has been on Monday-Friday, about 48 weeks a year for about 7 hours a day.

Not sure what everyone else expected, but I've certainly gotten my $29.95 worth!!!!

This is a rip-off and shouldn't be sold by any reputable outlet. Pretty to look at, it will last about a month, and isn't designed to even let you replace a bulb the materials are so shoddy. Even the screws are made of such mediocre material you will be lucky if you can get one off without destroying it.

The light turns off by itself and if we apply pressure to the base - theeeen it goes back on...
Not the nicest of lamps but I wanted a stand alone lamp that could fade in and out - I just wanted to be the one to control it (not the weight of my shoes that need to stay on the base).
Could've merely gotten a "bad" one or missed a step in putting it together. But as I see in the other reviews - others had some of the same issues so maybe it wasn't me after all...

After many years of service (since the mid 1990's) I am finding myself looking for this exact torchiere halogen floor lamp. It looks exactly like the 3 that I have already. 2 of them were converted to using flourescent lighting in an attempt to reduce the amount of heat given off. But, I left one alone because I liked the dimmer switch option for having light enough at night to watch tv but without detracting from the mood. Also, when it is on high, it puts off a lot of light (I use to study a lot and needed lots of light or I'd fall asleep!). Sadly, my last one gave out recently after many years of service and I have had trouble finding this in the local stores. I got it at Walmart many years ago for about $20 back then. I have replaced the bulbs many times without incident once you get the hang of it. Originally, the guard was a glass shield, unless they have changed the design.
If you need a lamp to put out enough light to light the entire room and then some, this is still a good one. I am considering getting it again despite the one article about the metal mesh guard as opposed to the original glass guard. All the other floor lamps just don't give enough lighting. The only negative I experienced with this model is that once in a while you get one that starts to hum or buzz after awhile. When this started to happen, I would switch it from my study to the tv room where a lot more noise was around that I didn't notice it anymore.
