3.0 out of 5 stars
Extremely varied selection of hardcore harpsichord !!, June 12, 2006
This review is from: Hamburg 1734 (Audio CD)
I purchased this disc after reading a classics today review that gave it 10/10 (for performance/recording). I had purchased a couple of solo Harpsichord discs and was hungry for more. I would have to say that the performance throughout is stunning, and the range of pieces in the program is quite remarkable - on that basis objectively it would get a 5-star review.
However subjectively (hey, this is my review) I find the disc quite unlistenable because of the sheer variety of music - especially the more modern pieces towards the end of the program (I actually don't like one of them...).
I seem to get fidgety when the disc is on, and I keep wanting to skip tracks. I think that my criticism here is not the playing or the recording but the disc contents - what I really want to do is take the pieces that I like best and put them together with some similar pieces and burn some discs that I can listen to all the way through without having to make a 'mental shift' in listening.
