I've been playing the flute for thirty years (novice, of course) and finally had to retire the Artley my grandfather bought me with his discount back when I started. I've been looking (and asking) for a new flute for several years now and finally received this one for my birthday. It came well packaged with the keys properly protected with cork inserts and a nice fitting carrying case. The tone is spectacular, as I'd expect of a Hamlin. Whether you're a grade school enthusiast that's committed to playing this type of woodwind instrument or a community band member, even a novice soloist, this is a well-priced, well tooled, beautiful instrument to own. I highly recommend it.

The Hamlin Red & Gold Flute is beautiful. When you open the case it is like opening a jewelry box and finding a marvelous gem. Beyond its looks, though, it has a very sweet tone (most important for a flautist who hasn't flaut in a while). The case is very secure and cushy and very, very cute.
Hamlin's service (packing, shipping, notifications, etc.) is as exceptional as their flutes.

Compared with professional flutes and even with "name brand" student instruments this instrument is quite resistant. It's not the greatest instrument for beginners, so don't be overly tempted by the price. For the experienced flutist looking for something for special gigs (a Christmas chamber music performance/gig, a '60s orchestra pops concert with Moody Blues tunes, and so on) it's (to quote Prince) "got the look." An experienced flutist will be able to work with the resistance embouchure-wise and air-wise. The inexperienced flutist might tend to learn some undesirable habits.

My daughter received this today and likes it a lot. She said it played perfect. Shipping was extremly fast as well. I paid another company for another instrument, paid for 2-day shipping and haven't received it yet. I didn't pay for the 2 day shipping through Hameln and received it in two days. I can't ask for better service on a great product.
