Works great!,

I bought this product for my son. He's eight years old and suffers from allergies. He woke up every morning sneezing, and with a stuffy nose. I was looking for an alternative to giving him allergy medication every day. We keep it on the desk, right next to his bed. It's incredibly quiet and it has helped his allergies a lot. After about a month of constant use on the medium setting, I vacuumed the filter. It was filty. I was very impressed with how much dust it pulled from the air.

Our daughter has allergies and we've tried several different air purifiers. This is by far the best we've tried. It is much quieter than others, compact size, the filter is permanent, and it works great. We are getting another one for another room.

So far, so good!,
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 04383 True Air Allergen-Reducing Air Cleaner (Kitchen)
I received my item (though late, Thanks Amazon), and apparently all my research into an air cleaner has paid off. This little guy does exactly what it says and works like a charm.
Here's why I bought it. I wanted an air cleaner for a medium to small sized room where I keep my cat's litter box. Normally, it doesn't smell, but about the day it's time to change it, I can smell it. Now, I don't want to smell it ever, though I keep my kitty box schedule in tact. Anyway, this air cleaner is so quiet on Whisper Mode that I literally cannot hear it. I even put it in my roommate's bedroom, just to see if she realized it was in there, before moving it to its final destination. She had no clue. The model has 3 speeds, but the Whisper Mode is fine for continuous daily use. Sure, you can turn it up, and you'll hear it's low whirrrrrr, but that's to be expected. Another reason I bought it is that it IS a HEPA quality cleaner. But I don't have to buy replacement filters--ever. This one has a "permanent" filter, which I didn't even know existed. To clean it, it says about once every 6 months to just use your hose and brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner and suck it out. Really? That's awesome! Why don't ALL HEPA filters do this. That feels like such a waste. I'm not allergic to anything, but my purpose for this is to keep the area near my kitty box smelling like air, and not horrid ammonia. Cats are so gorgeous, but like newborn babies, they sure can produce some of the foulest smells! So: I am in love with this baby. Thanks Hamilton Beach!

A great solution for mid-sized rooms,

The Hamilton Beach True Air is an excellent device and a great value for its price. It is a simple setup: a powerful fan moves the room's air through an air filter that does not need replacing (just regular vacuuming.)
This machine has a very respectable fan for its size, and 3 speed settings. The fastest one is as loud as you would expect any regular fan to be. The lowest speed is quiet enough you can ignore it's there. Air flows in through the front of the unit and comes out at the top (when set horizontally) or the side when set upright (this is my setup of choice). As a bonus, this lateral airflow seems to move air in the room much better than anything else I've seen, and it helps during warm days to make the room feel 10 degrees lower. I prefer this unit to the room's ceiling fan. The filter seems constructed well enough to last a few years. It is definitely not water-safe as the filter encasing is made out of cardboard. The unit I received DID NOT have ionizing capabilities. Air quality: This air purifier is nothing short of wonderful. I have a cat to which I seem to be mildly allergic. He loves to hang around the bed with his dirty toys and his natural tendency to shed, and it used to seem next to impossible to keep the air quality in the room at a satisfactory level. I used to suffer of allergies for a couple of years and often woke up with a stuffy nose, a puffy face and feeling un-rested. Last year I bought an Ionic Pro hoping to improve the air quality in the room, and have seen a mild improvement because of it, but it was hardly a solution. A few weeks ago we went on vacation for 10 days and upon our return the air quality was so bad I had attacks of shortness of breath and went to bed miserable. That's when I decided to try the Hamilton Beach True Air on Amazon, which arrived promptly. As soon as the box arrived I got the unit setup and cranking on high in a matter of seconds. Although the room is larger than the suggested size (200 sf vs 160 recommended), within an hour the difference was very noticeable. The air felt fresh, clean and crisp. Ever since I bought this machine, the room has quickly turned from the stuff of nightmares to my favorite room in the home. I would definitely recommend this air purifier to anyone, under any circumstance. It is largely a much better solution than the ionizer-based devices such as the Ionic Pro, which will most likely soon find its new home behind some boxes in the garage.

Decent compared to other sub-$50 air cleaners,

Keep in mind that this model does not have an ionizer. In one of the pictures it shows an ionizer icon, so this can be misleading. I think this is an OK product for under 50 dollars, I don't think other similar priced air cleaners would do much better or worse. It's good for smaller rooms. And it isn't silent on the lowest setting, unlike some reviewers said. The noise is similar to a fan on low speed or a refrigerator. Some people may like the "white noise" the low setting creates.
I noticed a small difference within 6 hours of use, but that may be my imagination. If people really want a dust free room, they need to clean carpets, walls, windows, curtains, blinds, air vents, bedding, etc. Also use a HEPA filter for your home and use some cheesecloth over all vents. Air cleaners will only clean what's in the AIR. The majority of dust settles but occasionally does stir up. 3 stars.

Dust buster,

This review is from: Hamilton Beach 04383 True Air Allergen-Reducing Air Cleaner (Kitchen)
This air allergen cleaner is doing exactly as it is advertised. I have been using this unit for over the past weeks and noticed a significant reduction of dust within my room. I used to have to dust every week in my room due to the dust covering my furniture. It was most observable on my black electronics, such as my TV, like a blanket of gray lint. Now over two weeks has passed and there is barely specks of dust on my furniture. I have also noticed the reduction of dust in my vacuum once I am done sweeping over my carpeted room. The canister in my vacuum used to be filled with dust balls, dirt, and grime all around the rim of my vacuum canister, now there is about a 70% reduction in all categories. Most impressive. Scents also no longer linger in my room whenever food is brought in. I used to have to wait hours if not the next days for fragrance and odor to dissipate, now it merely takes a couple of hours depending on the speed the unit is set to. OF course, the unit is not completely perfect. Although it is reducing the amount of dust in my room, it does not completely eliminate it. The unit helps to reduce dust not completely remove it. I would say it removes about 70% of dust in a confine area, which is great because after all this is a budget unit.
The unit is able to be positioned either vertical or horizontal. I personally have it on its horizontal position facing away from my bed because of the position of the vents. That is one of my main complaint with the unit. The unit works by sucking air through the front vents with its fan, the air is then filtered by the hepa like filter, and then distribute back out through the rear vent. The only issue is that the rear vent is not on the units rear, but the left side. This causes the air to blow out towards the same direction the unit is facing. So if the unit is facing straight at you, air will be blowing at an angle towards you. And if you have it set up next to other electronics or furniture, air will be blowing against the object and ricocheting towards the way the unit is facing. The unit also has a Hepa-like filter, those looking for a true Hepa-filter will not be please. But you shouldn't worry because it doesn't matter whether the filter is true or not, what matter is how much percentage of the filtration and the micron it filters. In this case, the unit filters at 99% at .3 micron which is the important factor with any filters. The unit also comes with a permanent filter. The filter doesn't seem too sturdy though, and as mentioned by another reviewer, it's basically just the filtration lining glued on the edge with card stock. Not to sturdy, but when all you have to do to clean the unit is vacuum it with your hose, I suppose it doesn't need to be sturdy. The most important factor about this unit is that it is not silent! Those looking for a completely silent unit such as the Ironic Breeze will have to look else where. The unit comes in three modes, low, medium, and high. The low is already pretty noisome reminiscent of a breeze through a hallway. It has a hollow timbre whooshing noise completely noticeable if you don't have other electronics on. The medium and high is completely loud, bottom line. So, if those who are very sensitive to ambient noise, then you should stay clear of this unit. But I would recommend this unit to others. It works properly as advertised, has a permanent filter, and significantly reduces dust. It's not perfect but as a budget unit, it's completely great.

I ordered this air filter after dealing with my friends' allergies to my newly-acquired longhaired cat (himalayans are giant poofballs). His hair and dander combined with my shorthaired cat created a knockout effect on my allergic friends. As I like being around them AND my cats, I got a filter. Instead of immediately sneezing up a storm, my allergy-inclined friends can last several hours before being affected.
The filter also eliminates smell from the litterbox. It's very powerful for its size and takes care of my entire one bedroom apartment. Having it plus using a carpet deodorizer every few days keeps my place manageable to those not super duper allergic to cats but allergic and sneezy nonetheless. For full effect, I suggest using it in a room with the door shut on full blast for two or three hours. Afterward, for dander management keep it on the quiet setting. If I know people are coming over I turn it up higher and put it back on quiet when they're around. It's very quiet background noise, barely noticeable. I haven't had to clean the filter yet, but it is very easy to remove to do so.

WOW... Impressed,

I have tried four other air cleaners that turned out to be a waste of money. So when I got this unit I had little expectation about its effectiveness. BOY was I surprised! I set this up in my bedroom and after 24 hrs ALL my allergy symptoms disappeared. I didn't believe it, so being the skeptic that I am, I had to test it further. I turned the unit off. Two days later all my allergy symptoms returned. I turned the unit back on. Once again within 24 hrs all my symptoms disappeared. Since then I have been living free of runny nose, sneezing, scratchy eyes and throat. I love this beauty. I bought one for my asmatic nephew. He wound up quitting taking his meds for the first time in years. I also bought one for my 86 year old mother. She is now feeling more overall healthy, spry and energetic.
Far as I'm concerned this beauty is a minor miracle worker... and it's a bargain price wise. I have been recommending this to all my relatives back east.

This is a great air filter for the price. My allergy Doctor tells me I am allergic to everything that grows. He was teasing but, I am allergic to many, many outside growing things. I have bad drainge that neither shots or pills can't control. I had to improve the air in the house at least. I researched the best air filter for allergens and this was the only one on the list that I could afford. The ratings were great. I still did not expect it to be a good as it is. An hour after I plugged this in and turned it on high the room had much cleaner air. It was easier to breathe in the room where it was. My husband came in from work and immediately wanted to know what was so different in the air. It's wonderful. Now I am breathing much better at home. Thanks.

This air purifier seems to get the job done as described. It's quiet setting really is very quiet and great for use at night. The "quick clean" setting is pretty loud but it gets the job done! I have found that the medium setting moves a good amount of air and isn't distracting to have on while in the same room. The air does seem to smell fresher after using this product. I got it because I have asthma and just wanted better indoor air quality. I'm a satisfied customer. Also, having a permanent filter was a must for me when considering cost. This unit has great cost value.
