First Machine Leaked,
By Mike Knapp (Carlsbad, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 47224 12-Cup BrewStation with Water Filter, Black (Kitchen)
I saw this machine at the San Deigo Home Show and was intrigued. I've never seen anything like it. So when our third Mr. Coffee glass carafe cracked, we started to research new machines. Honestly, I was drawn to the thermal carafe types like Capresso, but my husband said, "Why don't we try that new one we saw," because he liked the idea of "no pot", and it saves a step when pouring.I returned the first BrewStation to Sears because it dripped out of the dispenser opening, even during brewing. Then constantly thereafter, "drip, drip, drip." Totally unacceptable, especially since the drip catcher is tiny. My second machine does not have the same drip issues YET, only 1-2 drops after dispensing into your mug. However I remain skeptical that the spring-plug at the opening of the dispenser could have a design flaw, or wear out over time. CONS: 1) No "beep" signaling end of brew. 2) No "table service" if you entertain, they have to serve themselves "cafeteria style." 3) Tall, measure for space if you plan to place it on a counter under cabinets.

Coffee Shop Coffee in my home EVERY MORNING!,

This review is from: Hamilton Beach 47224 12-Cup BrewStation with Water Filter, Black (Kitchen)
I thought burnt tasting coffee after the first cup was something you have to live with. I saw this product advertised on TV and immediately got on line and found the best price at Amazon. I am very happy with the taste and temperature of the coffee. Because of the design, the coffee doesn't sit on the warmer and scorch. It is the best tasting coffee I have ever made and the design is very easy to clean - no more pot! Everything easily lifts off to be rinsed out. No drips on the counter from a carafe while pouring, too. I love it and will never buy another "old fashioned pot" again. This design will do to the carafe style what the carafe style did to the percolator! Make it obsolete!

I finally decided to replace my Black & Decker SpaceMaker after it started leaking & eventually ruined part of my counter. I saw this pot on HGTV during one of the home innovention shows they aired. I knew I wanted it.I got the BrewStation & out of the box it was so EASY to use. The brew time was so fast, set up was easy, and the taste is INCREDIBLE!!!!! Thank you Hamilton Beach!!!!

Very satisfied!,

When I first saw the Brew Station in a local store it caught my interest, especially the serving function. To be able to just push my cup against the "bar", only one hand needed, sounded great, as did being able to set it up and program it to have my coffee ready when I got up in the moring. I then checked out the customer reviews here on Amazon. Diffently diverse pro's and con's. So decided to wait and look at some others. But the features and looks of this one kept drawing me back. Finally, I bought it - and am I glad I did. I call the "pot" a bucket as that's what it most resembles when you remove it - so easy! I do not find it hard to remember to push the start button twice to start coffee right away (once for timer) as some have mentioned. My only "complaint" is that when setting the timer, the digits blink too quickly making the numbers hard to read. Of course, I'v only had it for a month, but so far I am very happy I purchased it.
UPDATE JULY 2004 - it died today! FOR THE PRICE, NOT A GOOD BUY!!

Finally...a great looking/great working coffee pot!,

Not only nice looking, this coffee pot is very easy to use and to clean! I was looking for something that had a great aesthetic appeal in the kitchen and was also very simple to use....this pot fits the bill for both, plus, it's relatively inexpensive. I received it as a gift for Mother's Day, and I am hooked on it, recommending it highly as a great wedding/shower gift, graduation gift for kids off to college, housewarming gift, etc. With the right little accessories, i.e., cute & clever sugar/creamer jars, you can create a coffee station in your kitchen! And, most importantly, the coffee tastes great - keeps hot - and the programming to automatically start brewing is simple as can be!

Hamilton Beach BrewStation,
By Leevje "Leevje" (California) - See all my reviews

I had a Black and Decker under the counter coffee maker for the past five years and I decided to replace it with the BrewStation. As far as I'm concerned this coffee maker is great! I'm sorry to read some of the poor reviews on it because I haven't had any of the problems mentioned in earlier reviews. What I like best about this coffee maker is the coffee comes out HOT! Much hotter than coffee makers with the carafe. This was a big plus for me because I use liquid creamer that I keep in the fridge and it always lowered the temperature of my coffee. This doesn't happen with the BrewStation.
If I've had any problems with this machine at all, they've turned out to be my own fault, not the machine's. So far it hasn't leaked from the spout, nothing has cracked or broke, and the brewing time is a lot faster than my old coffee maker. If you follow the directions that come with the machine, you get a GREAT cup of coffee. My only complaint is with the "Permanent Gold Tone Filter" that I got free with the coffee maker. If your machine didn't come with a free one, don't waste your money purchasing this item. The water runs through this filter so fast it doesn't take time to brew the coffee and you end up with very weak coffee. You're better off using the paper filters. This machine makes coffee FAST, it's convenient to use, and it's easy to clean.

I bought this coffee maker for the office. I formed a 6-person Peet's club, where each person is responsible for buying 1 pound of Peet's every 6 weeks. The program? Moderately successful. Then I changed coffee makers from a basic Krups model to this one. The program now? A wild success. I got more people interested in the program on the basis of the improved taste and flavor of the coffee. Two people in my group, in particular, are almost painfully silent when it comes to expressing their opinions and they came up to me to make special mention of how great the coffee tastes, so that's really saying something. Someone outside the group found out about our exclusive coffee club with an exotic new coffee maker, and he would not rest until he got a "membership".
It is not any more difficult to clean this machine than the old one. I love that there is no more burnt coffee smell that permeates the room if someone forgets to turn the machine off. The coffee temperature stays hot enough if left on. But the best part: No one spills because there is no carafe to pour out of! And there's nothing to break! It's so easy to clean and only rarely requires anything close to a deep cleaning. Most days, just a simple rinse will do. We've had this for 3 weeks and people are still talking about how much they love it. I love that it's a 12-cup maker; I rejected all 10-cup makers and I would have been so sad if they made this in only a 10-cup model. By the way, if you already use filtered water (we have a water cooler that uses bottled spring water) there is no need to mess around with the water filter that they include. And definitely don't spring for the refills! You're better off just using bottled water!

Excellent Design,

I've owned this unit for 2 months and have been extremely pleased. The first, and most obvious, benefit is never needing, cleaning or breaking a glass carafe. Both the brewing basket and the coffee resevoir lift off the base and are ruggedly designed, making the unit easy to fill and reassemble. The lid, which fits over the entire unit, does collect a lot of condensation; however, when you lift the lid the water is channelled back into the water tank. The dispenser fits even the largest mugs, and a little metal drip grate also serves as a nice place to rest a coffee spoon. The internal tank also keeps the coffee hot longer without burning or bitterness. The only negative: the brew seems a little weak, which means you use a little more coffee. (This is also the only thing in my kitchen that would motivate me to write a review!)

Great coffeemaker!,

I just purchased this coffeemaker a couple of days ago. So far I love it! It is easy to set up, easy to clean and I love the water filter that came with it. I also like the fact that I can program it to have coffee ready when I wake up in the morning and it has an automatic shut-off after two hours. The coffee stays hot and does not get that yucky burnt taste. And no problems with dripping. I love that I don't have to use 2 hands to pour a cup of coffee...very helpful when I am carrying around my almost 4 month old baby!! I would recommend this coffeemaker to anyone. You can also purchase a permanent filter rather than using the paper filters.

I'm already on my third one IN A YEAR!!!,
By Rojojovi (Twin Cities, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 47224 12-Cup BrewStation with Water Filter, Black (Kitchen)
I bought my first one last Thanksgiving. By February, the pump stopped working. I contacted Hamilton Beach, I had to pay the $7+ for shipping for them to replace it. I received my new one after a couple of weeks. About two weeks ago, same problem, the pump stopped working. HB is replacing it with the same $7+ charge.
I don't particularly care for the size of the unit; it takes up a lot of counter space. It also takes a while to cool down, so if you're efficient and want to clean and set up for the next day, you'll have to wait. However, I love the idea of not having a carafe. And it's definitely much easier to clean. As long as HB keeps sending me new ones, I'll keep using it. Edit: 5/8/2006 - Our third one just died. I wouldn't recommend this item to anyone. HB customer service requires you to pay for shipping, both ways, to send it back until THEY decide they will send you a *new one, which is going to break in a couple of months anyway. JUNK!!!!! Can someone recommend a coffee make that will last at least a year? *new: Refurbished |
