Makes great quesadillas.

As soon as we opened the cover the plastic around the screws broke off and the screws fell out as the lid had no stopper to make sure it does not hyper extend.

I bought this for $17 at my local supermarket of all places! Thought it was a great deal after looking at online prices almost double that. Used it right away and discovered the major flaw is that it has 3 concentric ridges around on the edge supposedly to make it versatle for all sizes of tortillas. The concave center area with dividing ridges is only 6" across. That means that you can only fill the center 6" of your toritilla and the outer 1 or 2 inches is just "sealed". An 8 or 10 inch torilla will fit on the grill, but if you put filling beyond the 6" mark, it will not close so you end up with a soft "steamed" quesadilla.

PROS: It was well made, got hot quickly, and crisped up the tortillas (after I removed some filling so I could latch it closed, and it cleaned up very easily.

If you want 6" quesadillas, go for it. If you want larger quesadillas try one that doesn't have the "fits any size" sealing ridges. The one that Nostalgia Electrics makes appears to be designed specifically for 8" tortillas, so I'm going to try that one. (Also it's priced right.) Most of the other ones on here don't show images of the inside plate so it's hard to know about the ridge pattern on those.

We love quesadillas and I'm tired of making them in my fry pan. Hope this next one works well!

Just a few months ago, I received the best birthday gift ever. My friend Staci brought it to my house, because she could not wait to see me open it. It was just an average sized box, but when I opened it I was shocked. I was a little bit hesitant at first but now I think it is pretty great. It was the Hamilton Beach Quesadilla Maker!
The Hamilton Beach Quesadilla Maker is a bright red, circular machine, about twelve inches in diameter. Its small size makes it even better because it can fit in most kitchen cabinets. The size is also the same as the average tortilla. The quesadilla maker is equipped with two lights, a red and a green light. The red light indicates when the machine is plugged into a power source and the green light indicates when the machine is at the right temperature to start making your quesadilla.
This machine cooks evenly and makes the cheese inside extra gooey. There are ridges on the inside that are meant to cut each of the slices while cooking the quesadilla. It was a good idea to have the snack already cut when it is ready, but the ridges are not sharp enough and make it even harder to separate the pieces than if it were not cut at all. Another issue with the Hamilton Beach Quesadilla is that the power cord is only fourteen inches long. This is not a very user friendly part of the machine because most cords reach farther, if the cord was longer you could have it in various spots in your kitchen, and not only right by the outlet. After using this product several times I have learned that it is easy to clean. When the quesadilla maker has cooled off, simply take a dry cloth and wipe away any cheese that has melted on the machine.
Overall the Hamilton Beach Quesadilla Maker is a good product. It has flaws, like any product but there are defiantly more good things about the maker than there are bad. I would recommend this product to anyone who loves quesadillas!

Thanks to other reviewers I didn't have the learning process and things went well right off the bat. Quick heat up while I built the Quesadilla....refried beans, shred Mexican cheese, Canadian bacon and topped with taco sauce. In a couple minutes it was ready..slipped off grill easily. I cut it with pizza cutter as another reviewers suggested and found it best to wait until it cools a bit as the melted cheese causes the up to slip off the lower. Very tasty but then I built it so didn't expect other wise. But the machine toasted the tortillas just right and everything was nice and hot. I think you should have one.

This is the only Quesadilla maker I could find on Amazon which would take the 7-inch 3-carb tortillas. All the others would only take the larger tortillas. The added bonus on this machine is that you can use different sizes of tortillas, although only 6 inches will be filled and the outer 1-4 inches will be plain tortilla.

We tested the new machine last night. I had leftover turkey from a roast. I chopped up the turkey and followed the directions on quantities of meat/filling to cheese to prevent over-filling. I cheated a little by adding a tad more in my first attempt, because the low-carb tortillas are very thin. So, after heating the unit and assembling the 1/4+ cup of chopped turkey and 1/2+ cup of shredded Monterey Jack, I had to hold the lid closed about a minute until the cheese started to melt. Then the latch engaged. (Maybe I could have forced it closed, but I try to be gentle with my appliances.) The finished Quesidillas were marvellous!

I repeated the process for my husband, who is not on a low-carb diet, so I used the 8" flour tortillas. Same process, but I stuck to the recommended ratios. I still had to hold the lid closed for a minute until the cheese started to melt and then the latch engaged. Again, perfect Quesadillas. The finished "pie" was pressed into 6 triangles, but not cut through. I had my handy-dandy pizza cutter ready. Served with sour cream for a fast, delicious dinner made from leftovers. My dinner was only 9 carbs which included 1 tablespoon of sour cream. Calorie count (using the low-carb tortillas) is 355 and WW points are 8.

The Hamilton Beach Quesadilla maker did just what it claimed it would do. I did not experience any sticking, even when I forgot to put the second tortilla in place before closing the lid.
