I used this crockpot sparingly for about 9 months and was overall happy with its performance. One day I plugged it in and though all the lights were on and it looked like it was working it just wouldn't heat up. There is a 1-yr warranty on the device, so I called Hamilton Beach to put in a request for warranty replacement and that was when the run-around began! I ultimately called and/or emailed at least 8 times and got different information almost every time. I was finally told that they had all they needed and a new unit would be shipped to me. After a couple of weeks with nothing showing up, I called back and it turns out that they were waiting on me to make a payment for shipping of the new unit. While I generally think it is lame that I am responsible for shipping when the faulty unit was still under warranty, I was more upset that no one had bothered to contact me to let me know that they in fact still needed something from me. I told Hamilton Beach that I would be posting negative reviews on Amazon, etc and after a few weeks with no response, here I am. I have my new unit and I am hopeful it will last longer than the first one, but I am not planning on buying future Hamilton Beach products.

Watch out - This probe is a good idea - for done-ness. But know that you can not set it for any lower than 160. I want 145 for med rare, and the "promise" with all their marketing is that you can set it and forget it. Not for anything under 160! And their is nothing in their material about this - until I rec'd it and was going thru the step by step instructions. The default "low"setting is 160 and when I went to "arrow down" to lower the setting - well, it dosen't go any lower. I contacted their customer service - and was told anything cooked under 160 is not safe to eat - yet when I look at their own recipe book with settings for the probe - there are items calling for 145. Go figure. So, if you want anything lower than 160 - you have to keep your eye on the readout as it climbs from refrigerator temp - and climbs - then you can manually turn it off. So much for their famous - set - and - forget.

UGH. UGH.UGH. First time I used it, I started cooking at home, unplugged it took it to work and could not get it to start again. I tried everything — reprogramming it, starting from scratch, using different outlets, everything I could think of and nothing worked. A whole meal was ruined for the potluck crawl at work. Second time I used it, I put a meal in it, programmed it for low using the instructions and when I left the house at 6:30 a.m., all was well. When my daughter arrived home at 2:30 p.m, it had somehow at sometime during the day, switched itself to HIGH. She could not reprogram it to low, either. She unplugged it, moved it to another outlet, tried everything, but nothing worked. The meal was burned and I mean CHARRED. This is one to skip, people.

I have one word, which is AMAZING. This cooker does everything you need it too, other then start the veggies in the microwave. I just throw food in it in the morning, slap the probe in the meat and I have a meal waiting for me when I come home. I use it nearly everyday, and clean up is as easy as any other ceramic dish is to clean. *Note I would set the temp for meat one below where you want it, if you plan on letting it sit on warm for the rest of the day since studies show that meat continues to cook a bit as it sits.

I really loved this slow cooker. When it worked right, it was super. I've used it about 10 times in the less than a year since purchasing it from Amazon. I've made some nice recipes, like lasagna, meatloaf, etc. Today, I was making chicken and dumplings and after it was on for 2 hours I stopped smelling the food cooking and went to look at the cooker. It was stone cold. It had been hot, per usual, earlier. The display was still working fine but the heating element quit. So the food had sat there for almost 2 hours without being heated after the element quit. I tried turning the unit off and back on several times, and it refused to heat up. What makes me most disappointed about appliances today is that we are forced to purchase them from China, where these items are made as cheaply as possible for top dollar to the corporations who sell them. This unit costs $69, and that might not seem like a lot of money when compared to other slow cookers (which are not much better in quality - I've had several over the years), but when you have to keep purchasing the unit over and over, because it breaks frequently, then you end up paying a lot more. There is just no excuse that we can't have our appliances as well made as they were even 30 years ago. Appliances, when made in the USA, were tough workhorses. Today, they are tin-can-like junk, with a cost that adds up with each necessary replacement. Very disappointed that this gave out so soon, and that it was so nice while it lasted.

The best and most versatile slow cooker I've owned. The temperature probe allows you to be precise in your cooking. I contacted Hamilton Beach to find out the difference between Model 33958 and 33958A. They told me that they were the same product. The only difference was they packaged it specifically for Amazon (no fancy box). For the difference in price, who cares?

I purchased this crockpot less than a year ago and have used it about once a month and it worked fine. However two weeks ago it ruined both a roast and pork loin by turning into rubber; I set the crockpot on low for 6 hours ( I've done this in the past with no troubles) and it heated to the high temp. I'm so done with Hamilton.

I had originally received this slow cooker as a wedding gift four years ago, but I dropped it while moving and broke the ceramic bowl - totally my fault! I have two babies and use a slow cooker often, so decided to replace it with one that was a different brand and twice as expensive figuring that I use it enough to try out a "fancier" one. For the past five months of using the other crock pot, I have had maybe two meals actually turn out in it! Who would've thought there would be such a difference in slow cookers! I actually had to throw out roasts that never seemed to get done in the "fancier" crock pot and tried everything to make it work - more fluid, less fluid, longer cook time, starting out for longer on the high setting. When one of my tried and true recipes ended up in tough, rubbery meat that was hard to chew even after several more hours of additional cook time, I decided to give up and buy my same old Hamilton Beach slow cooker again. I made that recipe again last night in the Hamilton Beach cooker and it turned out perfect! It even tasted completely different than the same recipe that I made in the more expensive slow cooker. I am so glad to have this one back again. We're having another crock pot meal in it again tonight!

I really really wanted to like this but I REALLY wanted a 6 quart slow cooker. I know this one says it holds 6 quarts but it ONLY HOLDS 4.5quarts. I called Hamilton Beach and asked what was wrong. According to them, this model holds '6 quarts of food'. It's not based upon how much liquid.
This is a problem because quarts implies liquid is being measured. How do you measure 6 quarts of food? It would be food measured in a quart / liquid container.
Very disappointed in the size. I know this one won't work for us because our Cuisinart model that actually holds 6 quarts of liquid is usually almost full with anything I make.

I was skeptical AFTER I bought this because I bought it BEFORE I read the reviews. However, after several uses now, I am EXTREMELY satisfied with this item. You can disregard all the negatives. If you follow the directions on how to use (program) this cooker, you will be highly satisfied (it's really quite easy). I couldn't be happier with the price and the function of this device. Easy to clean, easy to operate and at a very good low price.

If I ever need a second one, I would not hesitate buying another one just like it!
