Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Just like the water dispenser on a refrigerator door, this 12-cup coffeemaker features a self-serve dispensing bar instead of a breakable glass carafe. All guests need to do is press a cup gently against the bar, which releases a strong stream of coffee that fills the cup in no time without splashing or dripping. Internally, the coffeemaker is creatively designed: a flat-bottom filter basket with swing handle removes so that the bucket-style, insulated water/coffee tank can be lifted out. Just fill this tank with water to the desired level, pour into the reservoir (the bucket spout is extra long for good reach and drip-less pouring), and set the tank and filter basket back in place. Insert a paper filter, add your favorite fresh-ground coffee, and push start. Quickly and quietly the brewing begins. Coffee is kept hot in the insulated tank without stewing, and will shut off automatically after two hours. The translucent front of the machine, marked with cup levels, lets you see exactly how much coffee is left. With only three buttons to worry about, the digital clock and timer are easily programmed. A bit larger than most coffeemakers, the BrewStation measures 10 by 10-1/2 by 14 inches and comes with a coffee spoon and two-year warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

This review is from: Hamilton Beach 47211 12-Cup BrewStation, White (Kitchen)
I decided to purchase the BrewStation despite the mixed reviews, because I really liked the coffee maker's concept. Unfortunately, I received one of the defective products like the ones I had read about. Within 2 days of using the coffee maker I began to have problems with the clock. The clock would shut off for no reason, and one time it just went haywire and started flashing random numbers/symbols. At times this clock's behavior would interfere with my being able to get brewing to start.

The other concern many people seemed to have was with water measurement. I was initially surprised with concerns re: that issue (how could it be THAT confusing?)...but it is. The numbers on the back of the pot do not match up with the numbers on the front. It is a guessing game. I have yet to make a batch of coffee that is at the cup amout I thought it would be - and therefore at a strength I'd like it to be.
After just one week and numerous problems, I called Hamilton Beach. The customer service agent did not seem the least bit surprised about my issues. I too was asked to cut the electrical cord off and send it in to receive a new unit, but now I have to wait for another machine to arrive.
On the positive side, I did enjoy the features that inspired me to purchase the product despite the reviews (the warmer and the despenser). Hamilton Beach also gave me no issues re: getting a new machine.
If I had to do it all over again, I would not have purchased this machine. Despite many positive reviews...it seems too much of a gamble.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice coffee pot, January 2, 2005
By
i use this at work for myself and a few friends. We make two pots a day and the coffee maker has worked perfectly for a few months now. Its pretty quiet, but the coffee tends to be very hot! the longer it sits in the coffee maker the hotter it gets. Overall, i'm very happy with it.

I've had this coffee maker for almost a year now and I have no problems with it. I have the black one (white and silver are available) and the plastic water indicator does get stained by the coffee but cleans off easily. The inside metal plate should also be kept clean daily, simple wipe down helps both metal warming features stay clean. There is one important item to mention during cleaning, to avoid drips you should open the trigger & let warm water run through it, where the coffee drips or you will end up with leaks when the cup is pulled away because the trigger will stick (from old coffee). Finally, I use the programming feature dailyand I find it is easy to program in different times (if needed) and it has a good indicator letting you know it is already set. It's not meant to be a professional coffee maker as far as flavor, so if you know you will get good average coffee and if that fits your needs, you should also be satisfied with this maker.
