At least it makes a good cuppa coffee,

I bought the hot pink version, #48271, from the after school clearance aisle for $11. Most of the comments about this style of Hamilton Beach Brewmaster (regardless of the model #) are right on.
the pros: +It makes 2 travel mugs of coffee. +The coffee is hot and delicious! +It was worth the $11 sale price. +Easy to program. +Small footprint and it looks good. +No carafe! +No drips. +The hot pink color will become a conversation starter! Where to start. I think the industrial designers and approver of this thing should be fired. They obviously never used a kitchen or had to clean up after themselves! the cons: -This thing is MESSY!! -Condensation on the lid. The tracks under the lid should guide the moisure into the hopper, but the lid gets so wet that the moisture overwhelms the ability of the design to do its job. Thus, water gets all over the counter. Opening this lid hours after brewing or over the sink helps somewhat with the moisture problem. -This thing is ridiculously tall when the lid is open. -The coffee basket isn't deep enough to hold the standard available basket filter that it calls for. I have yet to find the small 4-8 cups size that should fit. I shouldn't have to special order something like that. -Due to the filter size, you have to remember to move the water arm over the grinds or it knocks the side of the filter over when you close the lid. -The water comes out with such force that the grounds get on the inside of the lid. -The basket holder and hopper have weird clunky shapes with nooks and crannies and bumps that need to be rinsed out daily, resulting in water splashed everywhere. -You have to be accurate when pouring the water into the boiler. The directions say to use the hopper, but its large square shape makes it easier to miss. I use my Britta as it pours where I need it to. Whatever. I'm done complaining about this coffee maker. I'm just glad I got it on sale and don't have to use the thing on a desk in a dorm room! Its two saving graces are that it does make a really good cuppa joe, and hot pink is one of my favorite colors.

I KNOW THE TRICK!,

This review is from: Hamilton Beach 48275 Brew Station 6-Cup Coffeemaker, Black/Gray (Kitchen)
Hey I'm lovin my 6 cup brewstation...and I know a trick to keep coffee tasting fabulous...place about 3/8 of an inch of water into the coffee warming station (the top level...under the basket)...that way the coffee isn't hitting on the element and scorching!! I was going to return because of the awful scorched taste, but this is really working for me. I get three 14 oz coffees this way, and they all taste great...AFTER THE THIRD REFIL TURN IT OFF, to prevent the little thats left from scorching...also when I rinse the top level I always rub the heating element clean with my finger, just to make sure there is no residue left to create that nasty taste. It's pretty perfect!
ALSO it does NOT COME with good instructions and you have to realize that the water goes into the BOTTOM level reservoir (which is the machine itself)... first there is the removable basket, which sits atop the coffee holding reservoir that I was talking about(all removable for rinsing)....and then the water reservoir in the machine (I fill all the way to the 6 cup level even with the 3/8" extra water in the removable level...) hope this helps you all enjoy this nice little coffee maker even more!! I am putting in a little over 2 tbls ground coffee...(seems I am using less than with previous 1 cup dispenser.)

Brew Station vs. Mr. Coffee 4 Cup,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 48275 Brew Station 6-Cup Coffeemaker, Black/Gray (Kitchen)
After going through 3 Mr. Coffee four cup makers (the digital timers died) I tried the 6 cup Hamilton Beach Brew Station. It makes good coffee but preparing the maker is a bit complicated until you learn the drill. Also, it takes time to get everything ready to go again. Also, it's a bit irritating that there is no light behind the digital readout; however, Mr. Coffee did away with a lighted digital readout too. Too expensive, I guess.
