5.0 out of 5 stars Good coffeemaker
This is my favorite coffeemaker, and I have had many. It makes great coffee. Good features: makes up to 12 cups, has a removable water reservoir, uses less expensive basket style filters, and the carafe DOES NOT DRIP! At a clearance price, worth buying even if you don't need a coffeemaker, because you might like this one better than the one you use. This is a great...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Features!, February 27, 2003

I have had one of these coffemakers for four years and I love it. It was the only one with a top-fill reservoir, an easy-to-clean coffee holder, and auto-off features. The price was reasonable ... After using my first one for five days a week for over four years, the hotplate's coating started peeling off, so I purchased my second one. However, I cannot pass up getting another one for such a great price!!
All problems mentioned in previous reviews have been addressed, but they were really matters of being careful anyway. Thorough rinsing of the brew basket to make sure no grounds get stuck in the bottom lever-seal prevents sticking. Making sure the swing-out brew-baket holder snaps into place before begining the brew process prevents overflow. Using the proper measure of good quality, properly ground coffee ensures rich, great tasting coffee. Buy, and enjoy, this Best-Featured Coffeemaker!

4.0 out of 5 stars Hamilton Beach 49281 Aroma Express Coffeemaker White, March 30, 2002

I am extremely impressed with this particular model of Coffeemaker. The option of using the removable reservoir instead of filling directly into the coffemaker itself is definately a welcome convenience. The filter basket on this model does not detach from the coffeemaker.Instead, a separate plastic filter holder sits inside the basket that swings out to the side of the coffeemaker. One of the best things I have found with this model is the fact that I have yet to see steam rolling out of the top or condensation dripping from the filter basket area causing the hot burner to snap, crackle and pop.I am not sure how sturdy the lever that controls the pause and pour function on this particular model is as I did not see any springs like I have on all previous coffeemakers I have ever owned, only plastic parts. I also like the fact that there is a cord storeage compartment in the back to hold unnecessary and unsightly lengths of electrical cord. I would not hesitate to purchase this model for a gift or again for myself and would highly recommend it to others.

This review is from: Hamilton Beach 49284 Aroma Express Coffeemaker with Removable Water Reservoir and Programmable Timer, Black (Kitchen)
This is a no-fuss, no-mess, good coffeemaker. Although it is very light and has a flimsy feel, its job at brewing coffee is solid. It is a great buy compared to its competition.

After 8 months of use, coffee overflowed from filter basket [not sure exactly why, and that's part of the reason for the 3 stars-which I feel is being generous] onto the hotplate [and countertop] and that was the end...or at least I thought so. After reading reviews of a different coffee maker that evidently has a susceptibility to the electronics shorting out when the burner gets wet but works again when dried out, I decided that maybe I'd take mine out of the trash the next day and try it. Sure enough, I just plugged it in, turned it on (with water only) and it seems to be working. But after it finished 'brewing' I also noticed a bunch of white particles [that look like calcification chips] at the bottom of the carafe of hot water and a few in the filter basket. Not sure if the overflow cause a shattering of the heating element or what, but think it's just some dried vinegar from when my wife attempted to clean after it stopped working, but couldn't b/c it wouldn't work at the time so she just poured most of the vinegar out prior to throwing it in the trash. Hoping it's safe and may try a real test-run [with coffee] in the morning. So, for eight months it made good coffee. During those 8 months, the main positives were: decent coffee, & the lift-out water reservoir [nice to be able to sterilize in dishwasher every now and then]. Main negative was an occasional, unintended filter basket swing out which resulted in coffee all over the counter [which may have caused the latest, near-fatal, mishap]. Guess a piece of duct tape would fixed that, but expected better quality even if the price was on the lower side.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Basic Machine, December 6, 2002
By A Customer
This is a fine coffee maker for those seeking a basic, very good quality programmable machine. It is simple to program and the quality of construction is better than many more expensive machines. The coffee is consistently excellent. Three areas for improvement are-

The removable resovoir is very convenient but should have a lid to keep the water from splashing out on the way to the coffee maker.

Both the PM and Auto Mode LED indicators are very small and difficult to see (even for my laser-enhanced eyes).

The clock loses its time and program time memory when unplugged.

5.0 out of 5 stars We Love It!, July 8, 2003
By A Customer
What can I say. We had ours for about 4 years and the hot plate did start to peal away. I looked everywhere in my local stores and could not find it. So we bought a Mr Coffee. My husband and I did not like it at all!! It was a hassle and a big mess. So I came to Amazon, which I should have done before...I found my Hamilton Beach Coffee Maker! When I saw the price for a new one I did not even hesitate to buy it. Had it in 3 days and surprised my husband. He truly was a happy boy. I really hope Hamilton Beach does not discontinue this model. My favorite feature is the removable reservoir and it makes GREAT Coffee! We highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Price for functional coffee maker with timer, July 25, 2003

The product worked as advertised, and I had no problems setting the coffee maker to automatically start at a specified time. The only minor issue I noticed was that when you go to pour a cup of coffee before it has finished brewing, once in a while a drop or two of coffee will spill onto the heating pad -- but this is a problem with almost every single coffee maker I've ever seen.

Overall, this is a very good coffee maker for the price. Great value.

5.0 out of 5 stars big perk for the buck, July 21, 2003
By A Customer
This is a great coffee pot with more features and reliability than makers at 3 times the cost. Easy to program and clean - I especially like the removable resevoir for filling up at the
sink. Order 2! When yours runs down in 6-10 years, you'll have one available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why pay more?, July 21, 2003
By

I made my first pot this morning and the coffee was excellent. This coffee maker has all the features necessary in a quality maker.
It's great to be able to program it to automatically make coffee in the morning. What a timesaver. It also has auto shut-off which is a very important safety feature. One less thing to worry about. I hate waiting forever for a pot to brew, so it's nice the pot brews fast enough. And for those who are really impatient the maker automatically stops brewing if you want to pour during the brew cycle. It's also nice to be able to remove the water reservoir and wash it since a lot of mineral deposits build up there in all coffee makers.
