5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value
Since my new blender arrived, I have been on a spree of smoothies and sauces. The unit is versatile and very easy to clean, and I especially like that the 'wave action' eliminates the need to use a spoon or scoop to remove finished contents. Overall, it is a superb value for the price.

2.0 out of 5 stars Motor broken after two weeks
My roommate moved out, along with her blender. I chose this as a replacement since it was on sale and touted the "wave action" design. The first problem was that this blender doesn't do the best job of blending. The blades will just move whatever it is out of the way your blending and spin freely unless it's babied with only a little bit of material at a time to start...

My roommate moved out, along with her blender. I chose this as a replacement since it was on sale and touted the "wave action" design. The first problem was that this blender doesn't do the best job of blending. The blades will just move whatever it is out of the way your blending and spin freely unless it's babied with only a little bit of material at a time to start things off. The wave action does seem to work and helps for adding extra ingredients to smoothies. it is incredibly loud and hops about the countertop unless held down. The base heats up very quickly and I have no doubt this is what caused the motor to fail. This blender is a POS in nearly every way excpet that it is easy to take apart and clean. but what does it matter when it breaks after being used a few times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Noisy but AWESOME, October 6, 2008

This is easily the noisiest blender I've ever owned. I worry about setting off car alarms on the street when I run it. But it's also the most effective blender I've ever had. It's easy to clean, easy to run, totally powerful and I'd recommend it to anyone. An excellent value.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unusable after several months, August 15, 2009

What is more annoying than having your milkshake leak all over the counter. This is exactly what's happening -- the "watertight" seal went bad after several months of *minimal* use (occasional milkshakes only; no ice crushing). The motor is showing signs of impending death -- it produces a burning smell and takes increasingly longer to spin up. Why did I trade my 5-year-old perfectly working blender for this garbage?

Conclusion: stay away from Hamilton Beach.

1.0 out of 5 stars Low quality, smelled of ozone, sparks, died after a dozen uses, July 19, 2009
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 50161N10-Speed Wave-Action Blender, White (Kitchen)
Not much more to say. We use the blender very infrequently, but all it took was a few uses over a couple of years for the motor to stop working. Occasionally, turning the unit upside down would stir it into action, but when it did work blue sparks could be seen at the bottom and it filled the kitchen with an electric motor smell. Ozone?

Who knows, I'm definitely going to ovoid Hamilton Beach product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Also disappointed, January 19, 2009
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 50161N10-Speed Wave-Action Blender, White (Kitchen)
I purchased this because it advertises "no more ice chunks" and was very disappointed that it does not make icy drinks without ice chunks. I did read the instructions and tips but it didn't help. It's also VERY noisy. My former Black & Decker blender did a better job making icy drinks and was not as noisy as this one. I am returning this.

1.0 out of 5 stars very disappointing, June 9, 2007
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 50161N10-Speed Wave-Action Blender, White (Kitchen)
I bought the 10-speed Wave-Action blender specifically for making fruit smoothies. I've tried it three times, and it's no longer welcome in my house. Even after cutting up frozen strawberries by hand, I still have to stop the blender multiple times in an attempt to shake or shove the berries into the vacinity of the blades. And that doesn't even work, as evidenced by the very, very chunky fruit smoothie I just ate (many of the berries were the same size they went in, after several rounds of "blending"). I wouldn't recommend this blender unless you enjoy periodically raising your blood pressure to dangerous levels.

2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work for anything frozen, June 13, 2009
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 50161N10-Speed Wave-Action Blender, White (Kitchen)
This is a basic blender and only good for non-frozen food. It takes FOREVER to make anything that has frozen fruit or ice and is extraordinarily loud when you try. You can eventually make a smoothie but just make sure you are not in a hurry when you start.

4.0 out of 5 stars It does do frozen well if you know the trick, September 6, 2010
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 50161N10-Speed Wave-Action Blender, White (Kitchen)
I make a lot of frozen drinks, often daily. What I have found is that you must put the liquid in first, then any powders and then put the ice and any frozen items in. If you put the ice in first it just doesn't grind right. Put it in last and you will get a good drink.

The blender has survived going on nearly 3 years now. Not fancy but does the job.

If you want to create foam, this is a great appliance. If you just want to mix stuff, look for something else. There are lots of buttons, but almost no difference in the speeds they produce. My old blender was able to stir Hollandaise sauce while the hot butter cooked the egg yolks. This one is way too fast for that. What a mess!
