5.0 out of 5 stars Hamilton Beach Blender
This blender was purchased for my mother-in-law as a Christmas gift. The reason we chose this model is because it's the blender WE use at home, and it's excellent! Ours is 6 years old and going strong, used almost daily. Perfect for everything from chopping ice, puree, sauces, smoothies, protein drinks and even batters. This blender is nice looking, not complicated...

1.0 out of 5 stars Argh! This is a rotten blender!, February 17, 2001
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 50200 10-Speed BlendMaster Blender, White (Kitchen)
This blender died after 4 months of light use. I never asked it to crush ice or do anything really strenuous. I only used it to blend smoothies and tofu desserts - so the toughest thing it ever had to handle was a couple of half-frozen berries. After two months the motor started to have that burned smell when I used it. After three months the plastic bottom part of the canister started to crack. At four months, the motor started making funny noises, it smelled terrible, and the crack on the canister widened so that liquid started to spill out when in use. All in all, this blender was a total waste of money and ended up in the trash. I will NEVER buy a Hamilton Beach product again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Blender's motor died after 2.5 months, March 13, 2001

I received this blender as a Chirstmas gift. I use it several times each week to blend bananas and milk, that's it. It is now mid-March and the motor has already burned up. It started with a burning smell and then progressed to bright "welding"-type light (from the motor sparking) being emitted from the back of the blender. I am quite disappointed and have since bought a new more reliable blender.

The review says this blender has a plastic jar - does the blender in the picture look like it has a plastic jar? Anyways, I'm pretty sure I bought this model. Like the other reviewers said the motor died in just a couple months - avoid it!

In fact it was returned and I got the similar 52200 model (which is what the picture here looks like). Neither blender was good at chopping frozen items like fruit or ice. Plus I put it in the dishwasher, the blades rusted shut and (again) I fried the motor. I only ran it for a second or two and immediately I knew there was a problem, but that's all it took for this garbage. Again, it happened in less than a couple months.

You may do well to avoid Hamilton Beach brand blenders altogether. I know I will.

1.0 out of 5 stars Same burning smell..., June 17, 2001

This blender has been emitting a motor-burning smell since the day I got it. I thought it would go away, but it has only gotten worse. Definitely does not do what it says it does, all speeds perform the same. What a waste of money!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but short term life, December 31, 2001

I received this blender three years ago. I used the blender on a regular basis to crush ice, blend smoothies, and mix drinks. I was pleased with the performance. After about a year of use, I started noticing burning smells from the motor. The smells continued along with smoke. Finally, the motor burned out after three years of use. Given the price, I got my money's worth. I would buy this product again. I believe this blender performs as a high end product, but not does not have the same shelf life.

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk, October 26, 2003

I received this as a gift and like the others, the motor lasted a few months and then died.
I know of blenders that have lasted for YEARS, not months.
I would highly recommend purchasing another blender rather than this disposable choice.

Like another reviewer, I got about three years use before the motor burned out. However, I did use it almost every day/seven times a week - so it got used about 1000 times before it bit the dust. I don't feel that was too unreasonable considering the price - and considering that Hamilton Beach commercial blenders cost $300-$600.

4.0 out of 5 stars 10 years and still running, June 23, 2007
By
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 50200 10-Speed BlendMaster Blender, White (Kitchen)
I bought this thing ten years ago. I use it on a regular basis to make protein shakes (frozen fruit and ice cubes included). I take it to work sometimes, and, on one occasion I took it on a plane with me. Well, not on the plane, rather inside the plane. In a small bag, wrapped in a towel. When I arrived at my destination I opened the bag and found the plastic bottom open and the motor sticking out. I closed it back together, put some tape over it, and turned it on. This was four years ago. It's still working. What can I say? I give it four stars, because I get frustrated with it sometimes, as it can take some time to crush ice cubes.
