4.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy Blender.
Of all the Hamilton Beach products I have ever owned, this has been the best one. It's very sturdy, it doesn't leak, not too noisy and it's really quick to clean. The price was the best part. It was one of the cheaper blenders at the store but it works so well. Nothing is worse when you're blending up a drink and it leaks out the bottom. I have nothing but positive...

3.0 out of 5 stars OK for the price~ nothing to rave about
I purchased this blender off of Amazon because of the good reviews it received, which I can usually rely on, but not so much this time.

I bought it mainly to make baby food, but also wanted it for smoothies and iced coffee drinks as well. I've only made baby food in it as of today. I had to add a LOT of water for the blender to "puree" the apple pieces...

5.0 out of 5 stars LIGHTWEIGHT BUT POWERFUL, June 25, 2002
It's surely hot in Texas but thanks to this super blender I can have some tall cool ones ready in a jif - from smoothies to more potent libations. I very much like the plastic shell rather than a heavy glass that is real work to move around. Plus, the price is right.

The blender has also served us well in chopping for summer salads. It's always on our kitchen counter, and usually in use. We're happy with Hamilton Beach!

4.0 out of 5 stars good performance, June 6, 2002

This blender makes great mixed drinks and smoothies. I was misled to think "jar" meant it was glass. The blender's jar is plastic. However, it's lightweight and makes clean-up easy.

4.0 out of 5 stars does the job, November 28, 2001
I don't know how dependable it is since I haven't had it too long yet. It doesn't have the most impressive of the blending power but it does the job for the most part. It does fine, making 1 or 2 frozen drinks, but I don't think the motor will hold out if I had to make, say a dozen drinks. It purees and blends fine for home cooking purposes otherwise.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 54158 14-Speed Blender with 56-Ounce Jar and SureRest Base, Black (Kitchen)
I purchased this blender off of Amazon because of the good reviews it received, which I can usually rely on, but not so much this time.

I bought it mainly to make baby food, but also wanted it for smoothies and iced coffee drinks as well. I've only made baby food in it as of today. I had to add a LOT of water for the blender to "puree" the apple pieces. ("Puree" is in quotes because it didn't exactly puree the apples, just chopped them up finely) Because of all the water I had to add to get the blender to work, I then had to strain the excess off, which isn't a HUGE problem, but I'm a work at home mom, I don't have lots of free time. ALSO, when the blender was running, it smelt like burnt plastic. Which is why I haven't tried making anything in it with ice yet. I mean, if it smells like burnt plastic when it's "puree"-ing something soft, like apples, how is it supposed to crush ice??

I gave this blender 3 stars, because it works ok for softer things, but the smell of burning plastic makes me a bit apprehensive about it's quality and how long it'll last. In heindsight, I wish I had bought a different brand.

**I have to edit this review, because this blender just broke. I used it less than a half dozen times, and the rubber rings at the bottom just fell apart and now it leaks all over the place. Do yourself a favor, spend a little more and get something that won't quit after less than a dozen uses!**

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product for the price, December 21, 2003

I use to have the Black & Decker ProBlend and it broke after the second use because it could not handle the ice. This one is VERY good and blends anything I put in it, including ice. It is very strong for how light and simple it is and has never leaked. Anyone who gave this a low rating must have a defective unit or missing the gasket.
The only negative I can find is that it occassionally has a burning electronics smell if I let it run to long after the ice is turned into a smoothie texture. I think it is because the motor stops having resistance and speeds up too much. This has only happened twice in the several times I have blended ice and only on high speeds.

2.0 out of 5 stars I value the reviews, September 13, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 54158 14-Speed Blender with 56-Ounce Jar and SureRest Base, Black (Kitchen)
I must say I was most disappointed with this item. Before selecting this item, I consulted the reviews as I value the target shopper's opinion . I purchased this item as an anniversary gift for my sister, and must say she and I both were disappointed with its performance. She used the blender (1) time to make a few daiquiri's, and it leaked excessively. Other than the attractive look of this item, there's not much left to say other than SHIP it back to the store.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it - and it crushes ice, July 24, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 54158 14-Speed Blender with 56-Ounce Jar and SureRest Base, Black (Kitchen)
I read reviews on blenders before going to my local Target (Redmond). This not only crushed ice, it survived my Caribbean rum party and does a great job making sauces. What a great deal. I ran into another family in the blender isle who were back for a new blender - the spendy model they bought earlier didn't crush ice. If you guys are reading reviews - try this unit, it will do the job!
