5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Handle
With only two reviews to go by, it was somewhat hard to decide to purchase this product; however, I'm glad that I did. The handles make it very easy to carry, especially when the pot is full, and the secured lid is wonderful - no spills or losing of the lid while in transport! Something that one should know if purchasing this product is that the handles do get warm...

1.0 out of 5 stars Left a Bad Taste in My Mouth
I love the design of this product. I love the way it cooks. The design is perfect for pot luck dinners or entertaining. None of this matters, however, if the food you've prepared tastes STRONGLY of the rubber used to seal the lid. When I first opened the box, I thought the smell would dissipate if I left it out and open overnight, but it only made my kitchen smell...

With only two reviews to go by, it was somewhat hard to decide to purchase this product; however, I'm glad that I did. If you're one that does the potluck dinners, then this is a good traveling pot. It is not as awkward to carry, especially when it has food in it (as apposed to the other crock pots, where your knuckles brush against the side and you get burned while carrying it).

Personally I can only find one fault with this product and that is with the handles getting warm, but if I can carry/hold it for about 5 mins. without dropping it or setting it down, then it's not all that bad.

I bought mine at a store, so the price was under $30. Needless to say, I'm pleased with this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superior Unit Produces Yummy Food, January 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 6-Quart Slow cooker (Kitchen)
When my wife told me she wanted a new slow cooker/crock pot for Christmas I almost choked. First because she was asking for something so practical and second because I had no idea what to begin looking for in one of these. Thankfully, there were plenty of reviews here on Amazon to school me. So thanks to all that wrote before me.

So far we've had five meals from this unit. Each one has been great. From the wife's feedback this is an easy to use unit that cooks evenly and thoroughly. She really likes the solid feel of it; the heavy duty inner crockery and the glass lid are particularly robust. She's not a big pot-luck kind of person, but agrees that the built in lid locks and spoon holder will come in handy some time. On a side note, the included spoon is of fairly good quality. I was expecting something cheap and flimsy. Actually, it's about like any other plastic serving spooon you'd find in a department store.

Me, I'm the head dish washer so I look at the unit from the clean up angle. The crockery is easy to remove from the base. Both the lid and the crockery are real easy to clean; there's no problem getting baked on food off of them. As well, the outer metal base wipes down easily and seems to resist collecting streaks or finger prints.

We're well and truly satisfied with this slow cooker. It's a well built unit that cooks food just as advertised. You can't go wrong with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic slow cooker, great value, December 3, 2007
This is a great slow cooker. Attractive stainless steel. Cooks evenly from the sides and the bottom. Perfect low setting (slow 6-7 hour cooking at about 170 degrees). High setting creates a minor simmer at the edges (about 2-3 hours at 190-200 degrees). Keep warm setting does just that. Nice seal on the lid -- it even clamps down for travel. (Don't use the clamps when cooking.) I wish it had an auto-shift, but nothing's perfect. Fantastic value. Beware the terrible recipes in the instruction booklet! (Baked beans recipe is to buy a can of pre-made baked beans and cook for hours -- why??) But who cares, at this price, you can have a few bucks left for a slow cooker cook book. A great product at a great price.

4.0 out of 5 stars HANDY TO HAVE AND EASY TO USE, December 22, 2006
Summer, winter, springtime and fall this slow cooker is a mainstay at our house. The six quart size is fantastic for preparing foods for family and friends. We've fixed chili for 20 - just put it together in the morning and then let it simmer throughout the day. After slow cooking in a zesty sauce barbecue is fork tender (spareribs are another favorite).

We especially appreciate the lid rest which makes stirring (and tasting) easy, as well as the lock feature that keeps the lid firmly in place while cooking. The handles are carrier friendly, and the cooker is dishwasher safe.

Thanks to this cooker we no longer shy away from feeding a crowd, and we're happy to do it!

None of this matters, however, if the food you've prepared tastes STRONGLY of the rubber used to seal the lid. When I first opened the box, I thought the smell would dissipate if I left it out and open overnight, but it only made my kitchen smell. Multiple washings later, cooked a corned beef...tossed it. Cooked a roast...tossed it. Cooked oatmeal...tossed the cooker. I just don't think that something that leaves a chemical/ latex taste in the food can be a safe or healthy way to cook for my family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy Accident, November 20, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I completely obliterated the lid to my Rival 6qt. programmable crock pot and when I contacted Rival regarding a replacement lid I never received a response. Time to get a new crock pot! I did my usual research via Amazon and discovered this item. It arrived quickly with no fuss. My old Rival boiled everything to mush if I wasn't careful, no matter the setting. My new Hamilton Beach isn't as fancy, but it works great! The High/Low/Warm settings all seem appropriately calibrated and I love the high handles and lid latches.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rubber Around Lid Absorbs Food Odors, October 20, 2010
By

This review is from: Hamilton Beach 6-Quart Slow cooker (Kitchen)
The rubber around the lid absorbs the food odors and never goes away even after soaking. This makes the entire inside smell like spoiled rotting food. I called Hamilton Beach hoping they'd send me a replacement lid without the rubber around it. They told me their lids all have rubber around them. The Hamilton Beach lady said I just needed to soak it in lemon juice. I had no intentions of doing this after each meal prepared in it. So I returned this crock pot.

5.0 out of 5 stars reliable and easy, January 14, 2008

This cooker is much better than others I have had. It has high medium and low temps that are actually what they say. The rubber seal is a big improvement over simple lids and helps prevent dripping. It cleans up easily and doesn't take up much space on the counter. Best of all the ceramic crock is fully glazed all over so it can be washed much more thoroughly than the ones with the unglazed bottom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent crockpot!, May 5, 2008
By
I finally replaced my 20 year old Rival crock pot with this Hamilton Beach model, and I love it. It cooks evenly, cleans easily and the oval shape is perfect for long-shaped foods like beef ribs and roasts. I also love the warm setting, for times when the food is cooked but we're not quite ready for dinner. Its a little heavier to lift than my old one, but other than that, its perfect. I dont miss my old Rival at all!

4.0 out of 5 stars No more spills, January 4, 2007
I can not tell you how many times I have had to clean my trunk or car interior because of spillage. Not anymore,it locks down and keeps things warmer longer. I am absolutely thrilled with the tenderness and ease of cooking with this slow cooker. As an extra bonus it is easy to clean.
