Solid hand mixer for light to medium jobs,

I don't own a stand mixer, and until just recently, I relied mostly on my housemate's hand mixer. However, due to the fast approaching holiday baking season, I decided to get a hand mixer of my own. I like the Hamilton Beach line of hand mixers since they are cheap, and, from my experience with my housemate's hand mixer, they can stand up well to light/medium mixing jobs (about 3 years so far). I especially like the snap-on case in which to store all the attachments. I had the opportunity to get one of the name brand Kitchen Aid / Cuisinart hand mixers earlier this year, but I had gotten so used to the practicality of the attached storage case that I passed on buying the name brand ones.
I prefer my housemate's hand mixer for the cord storage, since I can wrap the power cord around the hidden compartment at one end, whereas with this one, the cord is just stuffed into the snap-on storage case, along with all the beaters. I also dislike the "traditional beater" with the center post that this mixer comes with, but my housemate's comes with the "twisted wire" beater than doesn't have the center post down through the middle. Also, the snap-on storage case is harder to remove for this mixer compared to my housemate's. However, the case is gradually getting easier to put on and take off, so hopefully it will eventually reach a state where the case is easy on, easy off. So far, my housemate and I have used either this mixer, or the Hamilton Beach 62676 Performance Plus mixer for: whipped cream, whipped egg whites, banana bread, muffins and other quick breads, cupcakes, boxed cake mixes, cakes from scratch, frosting, brownies, soft cookie doughs, etc. This mixer is definitely not for mixing bread doughs or stiffer cookie doughs. For many cookie doughs, you just need to fold in by hand ingredients like chocolate chips or nuts after mixing the base dough, so this hasn't really been a problem yet for me. The main drawback with this hand mixer is that the front ventilation slashes on the mixer body can get lightly dusted or splashed with whatever you are mixing, but I've yet to see/use a hand mixer that doesn't suffer from this problem. I recommend this mixer as a practical solution for light to medium mixing jobs, although I'd rate the Hamilton Beach 62676 Performance Plus mixer as slightly better, due to the wrap-around hidden cord compartment, and the fact that its main beaters do not have the center post down through the middle. For tougher jobs, though, more expensive hand mixers may be necessary, but so far, the Hamilton Beach 62650 6-Speed Classic Hand Mixer, Silver has done a good job of every mixing task I've thrown at it.

I rarely need a hand-mixer, but when I do, I do!
...i.e. Thanksgiving Dinner '08 for 26 people/10lbs of spuds, I could NOT find the beaters for the mixer I must have had for 20-years. (I still can't find them, BTW, so I'm still holding onto the electric part in hopes of finding the beaters so I can donate them to a charity!) Anyway, I decided on this one because of the previous Positive reviews. It feels good in your hand, the brushed stainless looks nice, but the Best Feature is the storage/holder bin which holds all the accessories and cord, and the electric part snaps into. It's perfect for the price and does a great job. Blessings!! Lisa Oh, I almost forgot: I recently made a breakfast-quiche for a church potluck using 4-dozen eggs. The whisk attachment (included) was a life-saver and 500-times better than whisking that may eggs by-hand!

My only non-positive is the case is a little tough to remove, but it's nice that the beaters and mixer store together. I made 45 dozen peanut butter cookies, a triple batch of gingerbread, plus another 10 dozen assortied cookies and then ginger cakes. The mixer came through like a champ and the the dough beaters made life sooo easy.

The design of this mixer is great and it comes with a nice storage solution but the internal gears shredded in about 2 months, and I was only mixing cakes and frosting!

We've had this a couple months now and I'm a bit nervous it's going to croak soon. Any time we beat something that's even a little heavy (like a triple batch of cookies for instance) it smells like it's about to melt. We shut it off for a little while and try it again. This is not an ideal way of making cookies. Also, its slow speed isn't very slow. Maybe they don't make a hand mixer that has speeds as slow as a stand mixer but we keep hoping to find one. In the mean time we'll survive with little bits of cookie dough thrown around the counter top.

I am happy with the quality of this product, sturdy, works well and should last a long time. The plastic snap-on to hold attachments is a good idea to help with clutter and losing attachments although it is somewhat hard to put on and take off.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!
After owning my last Moulinex mixer for 15-20 years,I bought this mixer at BJ's wholesale club this summer. I was thinking that my old one might not last much longer. What a mistake! I've used the new one many times and found it to be a bit heavy, difficult to insert the right beater each time, and the slow speed is NOT slow. Well, the other day I was making cookie dough and tried to insert the beater into the right side and a plastic piece that held the beater broke off! Then I discovered that the beater would not stay in, because, apparently, the rest of the plastic came off. (I hope we don't eat it.) So, now I have a mixer that can only use one beater! I wish I had kept my old mixer! (if it ain't broke, don't fix or replace it!) Now I'm looking for a better mixer!

I bake at least twice a week if not more especially during the holidays and special events. This product is not only convient but is a dream come true for those true bakers. It not only blends with fast and easyness but it has storage to hold the beaters and when you need to put the blender down for a moment, but are not finished with it, the container holds it so whatever you are blending is not dripping everywhere! It is the best money I ever spent on a hand held mixer, and I thought my last mixer was the best which lasted me over 15 yrs but thought it was time for more speed and power, but that has nothing on how incrediable this one is! The speed, power and over all usage is incrediable. All true bakers, it is a MUST HAVE!!!! You will not be disappointed! I Promise!

There might be a better hand mixer out there but this one does most jobs easily. It has beaters for nearly everything--I happen to like the beaters with the bar in the center--which is included. It also has the beaters without the bar, plus dough hooks and a whisk. One reason I bought it was for the colors--stainless and black to match my other appliances.
