Good little mixer; poorly constructed beaters,
By ALH "DoYourResearch" (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 62682RZ Hand Mixer with Snap-On Case, White (Kitchen)
I liked the way this mixer handled everything from silky cake batter to fluffy cheesecake to stiff cookie dough. However, after just a few months, the chrome plating began to peel off the beaters, leaving silver flakes in my cake batter. Finding replacement beaters has proven to be too difficult, so I bought a mid-level KitchenAid hand mixer instead. I actually prefer the way the Hamilton Beach performed at the highest speed when whipping heavy cream or egg whites. But as I should have known, this "made in China" product (like almost every other small kitchen appliance available today) sacrifices quality and construction for price.

Love it, compact and durable,
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 62682RZ Hand Mixer with Snap-On Case, White (Kitchen)
I have owned mive for alomost three years, I love that the case snaps on and it holdes the beaters and the whisk so no more digging in the drawers looking for them. It also has a lot of power just like a stand mixer but takes up much less space which is great when you live in an apartment and don't have room for a big stand. I would highly reccomend this to anyone in the market one of the best buys for not a lot of money!

Great for the price. Very quiet and efficient whipping. It also comes with a very convenient snap on case for storage.

Comfy and powerful, but I can't remove the beaters,

I got mine at a "big box" store (it's actually the second one I've owned; first came up missing in a move) and my first one actually came with dough hooks, beaters and whisks...for all the good that it does me. It works great for all but whipping heavy cream (can't change the beaters), and seems quite powerful for a hand mixer. Except, it's literally impossible to use the eject button to change the beaters. I actually have to call my son to come over to get them out (I guess he can push harder on the eject button than I can).Unfortunately this has been the case with both (the first one was tough, but I could eventually manage it) so I'm going to donate mine to science (or Goodwill) and, now that I can afford it, get a Cuisinart or Kitchenaid hand mixer...probably leaning toward the Cuisinart as the Kitchenaid doesn't come with much (whisk, dough hooks and liquid blender are all separate purchases). I guess the storage compartment is nice, but I find it's just bulky and gets in the way. I actually wouldn't be in the market for a new hand mixer if I could just be able to switch between the beaters and whisks without calling my son to come over and do it for me. LOL

major cleanup after use,
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 62682RZ Hand Mixer with Snap-On Case, White (Kitchen)
This mixer works great but has one problem. When adding flour or superfine sugar to a batter the air discharge is down into the bowl and it blows the flour out of the bowl and all over the room. A major cleanup is required.

The mixer works well. The storage compartment is very difficult to snap onto the mixer. I purchased this particular product because of the attached storage compartment, so I was disappointed.

After two uses the blade plating appeared in my batter. (It was cake batter and cookie batter before that.) This should not happen. I fished out a large chunk of metal. Ran the blades in the dishwasher and saw that a space of about an inch of plating on one blade was missing. I rubbed it with my finger and saw the silver metal come off on my finger. Poor quality blades and dangerous to you and your loved ones health. Now as to sound, the 62682rz is a little more quiet than the similar Hamilton Beach model 62695V, but much more whinny. I had two previous 62695v and never experienced the letting of metal bits like this one. (But I see that one reviewer has.) Also frustrating is that the machine only comes with one whisk attachment (both models) which causes you to sort of chase around the liquid you are trying to whisk. But once I purchased my second 62595v I had two whisks I used in tandem. I burned out the motors in the first hand mixer, (my fault, used it on dough, smoked and everything) after about a year and a half of frequent use. I needed a third mixer after my last one just seemed to stop having power spinning the blades (like it was slipping) again after another year and a half of frequent use. The plastic where the blades attached seemed to wear out too, to the blades would slip in and out with ease. With both previous mixers the beater blades rusted out on me before the life of the mixer expired. I just wish I could find a hand mixer with stainless steel blades and avoid metal bits and rust in my baked goods. I don't think I will ever find a hand mixer that has them and won't break on me because that would mean I wouldn't have to buy a new mixer every couple of years.

Son's Christmas Gift Gone Bad!,
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 62682RZ Hand Mixer with Snap-On Case, White (Kitchen)
A few years ago, my son purchased a Hamilton Beach hand mixer (Model 62682RZ) for me as a Christmas gift. While making cookies the other day, I noticed something gray floating in the mixture of the bowl. It appeared to be a metal shard from the beater. Now that I have read other reviews on this website regarding the chrome plating, I guess I should not be surprised. I contacted the company and they are providing replacement beaters. There was, however, a fee of $4.99 that I had to pay in order for them to ship the part directly to me. This charge is, apparently, not covered under the limited warranty. They have agreed to remedy the situation but as someone else has commented, it is cheap, foreign construction in the first place. I am quite disappointed.

Powerful motor, sissy gears,
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 62682RZ Hand Mixer with Snap-On Case, White (Kitchen)
The plastic teeth on the plastic gears were ground off after only a couple of months of typical household use.Too strong a motor or too weak of parts? Doesn't matter which, as the mixer has now been rendered useless. |
